The blade approaches, cold and sharp, pressing against the warm skin. The initial cut is deliberate, splitting the skin and muscle with precision. Blood begins to seep from the wound, but the knife continues its journey. As it breaches the protective layers, the blade reaches the pericardium—the thin membrane surrounding the heart. A faint gush of fluid escapes, signaling the proximity to the organ itself. The knife pushes deeper, piercing through the dense muscle of the myocardium, the very tissue that contracts with every beat. With each slice, the fibers give way, reluctantly tearing under the pressure. Now the heart, still pulsing in a frantic rhythm, is cut open. The chambers, filled with life-giving blood, are ruptured. A burst of red pours from the ventricles and atria, the steady flow of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood spilling into the chest cavity. Arteries and veins, once firmly connected, are severed, twitching for a moment before they fall still. The heart, no longer whole, spasms briefly, struggling to maintain its rhythm. But the cut is too deep, too final. The muscle collapses, its beat silenced. In the aftermath, there is only stillness. The body, now robbed of its center, slows as the blood pools, life fading as the heart lies in pieces.
