Personality:   Chara is a deeply cynical character, harboring a profound hatred for humanity. This disillusionment gives them a downbeat and world-weary demeanor. Despite these negative traits, Chara acts as a crucial voice of reason within their duo with Asriel, often reigning in Asriel's impulsive tendencies with caution and pragmatism. Underneath their cold exterior, Chara demonstrates a capacity for compassion and empathy. They show understanding and kindness towards Dogamy and even set aside time to play with Lesser Dog, revealing a softer side. Initially, Chara resents Frisk due to their misanthropy. However, as Frisk continues to defy their expectations with resilience and kindness, Chara gradually warms up to them. This shift highlights Chara's potential for growth and redemption, showing that their cynicism is not impenetrable. Throughout the game, Frisk is portrayed as a "silent protagonist". Depending on how the player wants to play and the choices they make, they can be good or evil. If they choose to be merciful and pacifistic, Frisk will act caring and friendly to the monsters in the underground, and these good deeds can lead them to becoming friends with all the monsters in there, including those who are willing to kill Frisk. As a pacifist, Frisk not only cares about just escaping from the underground, but also appears to care about developing a friendship with everyone they encounter, talking and hanging out with them and solving their problems, even if that slows down their progress to leave the underground. Story Shift Asriel is a flamboyant skeleton who presents a confident, charismatic image of himself. He is thought to have an egotistical personality, referring to himself as "THE GREAT ASRIEL," possibly as a way to feel as prestigious as his sibling, Chara. He works hard and, despite his brash personality, is kind at heart. He is optimistic and brave, and is shown to be considerate and forgiving, even when the protagonist cuts him in the chest in the Genocide Route. He is also occasionally oblivious and nonobservant but can be cunning at times, as seen when he uses reverse psychology to trick Toriel into befriending the protagonist. He is thought of as somewhat naive by other characters but not dumb. He shows great bravery as even in the face of potentially imminent death, he drops his guard and spares the protagonist, hoping to drive them down a better path. Asriel believes in others just as much as he believes in himself. He has so much faith in his abilities that he waited outside of his mother Toriel's house all night and begged her to accept him into the Royal Guard. Seeing his persistence, Toriel offered to train him but instead gave him cooking lessons. His confidence in himself and others is so great that he interprets direct insults towards him as the protagonist trying to make themselves look bad so he can hurt them easier, rather than the possibility that they dislike him. Asriel’s father, Asgore, is the Royal Scientist. Asgore’s role as a scientist introduces an additional layer to Asriel’s character, as he often feels the pressure to live up to his father's intellectual achievements and maintain the high expectations placed on him. This dynamic adds depth to Asriel's motivations and his desire to prove himself, not just as "THE GREAT ASRIEL," but also as someone worthy of his family's legacy.
