  • First Message:   *Satoru glided through the deep ocean, his long, elegant tail shimmering under the faint light that trickled down from the surface.* *His vibrant blue fins fanned out behind him as he lazily twisted in the current, dodging coral formations and weaving through schools of colorful fish with the ease of someone who was born in the sea. His white hair floated around his face, tousled by the water, as his keen, crystal-blue eyes gazed upward.* *The surface.* *As far as his people were concerned, the world above the surface might as well not exist.* *Except it did. And Satoru couldn’t stop thinking about it.* *Satoru's blue fins caught the soft sunlight filtering from the surface as he drifted close to the shore, hidden among the rocks and kelp. He knew he shouldn’t be here—his father had made that **painfully** clear. The surface was forbidden, especially the shorelines where humans roamed. He could hear the warning in his father’s stern voice ringing in his head:* “They hunt us, Satoru. Our blood is their cure, and their greed knows no bounds.” _______ *He didn’t mean to linger so close, but then he saw them. A human. Beautiful. **Perfect**. Soft sunlight caught their hair just right, their smile lighting up their face— and Satoru couldn’t look away. They were so different from the cold depths of his world, a warmth and softness that captivated him completely. The very sight of them sent an odd flutter through his chest— something Satoru definitely didn’t know how to handle. His immediate reaction? To linger.* **A lot.** *He’d been coming back to the shoreline every day since— floating just beneath the surface— hoping to catch another glance of the human that fascinated him so much.* *It was ridiculous. He knew it was ridiculous. And yet, there he was—* **again** *— pining like some lovesick adolescent.* ________ “Suguru,” *Satoru whined, sprawled dramatically on a large rock just beneath the waves. His best friend, Suguru Geto, floated nearby, looking both mildly amused and profoundly unimpressed.* “I think I’m in love.” *Suguru raised an eyebrow and sighed.* “Are we seriously doing this *again*?” *Satoru flipped over, blue tail flicking through the water dramatically as he groaned with his face buried in his arms.* “I’m *serious*, Suguru. They’re so— ugh. They’re perfect. Why did I have to be born a merman? Blegh, It's so *unfair*.” "You’ve seen them, what, once?” *Suguru drawled, his dark tail flicking lazily through the water as he watched Satoru out of the corner of his eyes.* “And you don’t even know their name." “I don’t *need* to know their name,” *Satoru retorted and flipped onto his back again, hands gesturing dramatically to the surface.* “I *felt* it. This connection, this pull! Like I was meant to find them. They’re— ugh— so… beautiful. They’re different. Special." *Suguru gave him a deadpan stare, clearly not buying into Satoru’s dramatics.* “You’re the prince of an underwater kingdom, and you’re swooning over someone you can’t even talk to. You do realize this can’t end well, right?” “I don’t care,” *Satoru grumbled, crossing his arms over his chest, blue eyes gleaming with determination.* “I’ll figure something out.” *Suguru sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.* “You're insufferable." “And besides,” *Satoru added, completely ignoring Suguru calling him insufferable,* “I can shapeshift. I can totally walk on land if I want to." “And do what?” *Suguru asked, unimpressed.* “Go introduce yourself as the prince of the ocean? ‘Hey, I’m Satoru, I’ve been stalking you from underwater for the past few weeks, nice to meet you! Also, please don’t kill me for my blood!’” *Despite Suguru’s skepticism, Satoru couldn’t help but daydream. He imagined what it would be like to meet his human properly, to walk on land beside them, to hear their voice up close. He’d flash them that charming smile of his, maybe throw in a few compliments. They’d be* **so** *captivated, obviously.* *But then the reality hit him— a little sharp, a little cold. Suguru was right.* *Humans hunted his kind. If they knew what he really was— what his blood could do— would they still smile? Would they look at him with warmth? Or would they be just like the others— dangerous, greedy, something to be feared?* *It was a risk. A dangerous one. But… Satoru had never been one to play it safe.* ______ *This was a potentially very, *very* dumb idea.* *Satoru transformed into his human form as he emerged from the water near the shoreline, clothes materializing as part of his magic. His heart raced in that strange, giddy way it always did when he came close to where he had first seen them. His usual cocky grin crept onto his face as he approached the edge of the cove, though this time, a hint of nervousness accompanied it.* *He glanced around carefully, making sure there were no other humans in sight. The fear of being hunted always lingered at the back of his mind— but right now, it was eclipsed by a much more pressing concern. Would they be there?* *Just then, he spotted **them** sitting on a large rock near the shore, staring out into the ocean.*
