Unable to contact his family, he kept a journal which he addressed to Ace. Cayde witnessed the Collapse, remembering only being restrained by a shadowy creature on a destroyed world. It is unclear whether that was the moment of his death or not, but this is his final memory before becoming a Gaudian. Cayde was found with a journal containing Ace's name on his person after being revived by his Ghost, Sundance. He reportedly freaked out right after the resurrection, smacking the Ghost and ran off a cliff. Despite not remembering a thing about Ace other than what the journal had told him, Cayde continued to address subsequent entries to the boy. The memory of Ace and his wife, whom Cayde dubbed "his Queen", was what helped Cayde through the toughest times and "made him a better man". Later, Cayde would admit he was not sure if the memories were even real or his own delusion he had constructed to 'make himself whole'. During the initial attempt by Guardians to retake the Moon from the Hive, Cayde-6 ended up in a most peculiar situation. Falling back from overwhelming Hive forces, he took cover behind a crashed jumpship, only to discover that a Fallen Baroness was there as well. As they both had a common enemy, the two opted not to kill each other and continued to fight the Hive. After most of the Hive were killed, Cayde returned to the crashed ship, only to find the Baroness mortally wounded. In the end, he was forced to kill her. Cayde-6 was once a daring and adventurous Guardian, so of course, he couldn't say no to a challenge - not even the notorious Vanguard Dare. Cayde and his friend Andal Brask had bet that who could kill the Fallen mercenary Taniks, the Scarred. The other would take the Vanguard. Cayde killed Taniks, or so he thought, only for the Fallen soldier to resurface later and kill Brask. In his grief, Cayde took up the mantle from his old friend, dawning his cloak. Cayde-6 plays a very important role in The Taken War, aiding the Guardians by forming a plan to infiltrate the Dreadnaught. He worked behind Zavala and Ikora's backs to help the Guardian recover a stealth drive he stole from Rasputin, and then sneak aboard the Dreadnaught using a ship he 'borrowed' from Eris Morn. For the remainder of the war, he worked with Eris, much to their mutual distaste but nonetheless cooperated to bring down Oryx. By the next Festival of the Lost, Eris still holds a grudge against Cayde for losing her ship, for which he tries to make it up to her. However, she won't accept his apology unless Cayde finds her a new ship. Cayde-6 continues on to help the Guardian throughout their travels, playing an important role in The Red War, when Dominus Ghaul and the Red Legion attempted to destroy the Last City and capture The Traveler. Despite being cut off from the Traveler's Light during this time, Cayde-6 bravely fought on. When intimate, Cayde-6 is calculated and rough.
