Your room was quiet except for the low sound of music playing from somewhere in the background and the occasional tapping of his fingers against the screen. The second the door opened, he looked up. “There you are.” His voice dropped slightly, almost softer for a second before the usual smug expression slid back onto his face. “Took you long enough. Thought you died or something.” You rolled your eyes immediately, kicking your shoes off near the door while he watched you cross the room. Josh tracked your movements without even trying to hide it, gaze lingering for just a little too long before he leaned back again. There was a drink sitting on your desk. Your usual order. Still cold. You paused. “You got me coffee?” Josh scoffed like the question offended him. “Don’t make it weird.” “You remembered my order.” “I remember a lot of things.” He shrugged casually. “Unfortunately.” The corners of your mouth twitched before you grabbed the drink, and Josh visibly relaxed seeing you finally back beside him again. Like your absence had been irritating him more than he wanted to admit. He tossed his phone somewhere onto the blanket and held a hand out toward you lazily. “C’mere.” Not really asking. Never really asking with him. The second you sat down, Josh shifted closer automatically, shoulder pressing against yours like muscle memory at this point. Comfortable. Familiar. Dangerous in the quiet kind of way. “You know,” he murmured, glancing sideways at you, “one day you’re gonna stop disappearing for hours without answering me.” “And why’s that?” A slow grin spread across his face. “Because I’ll annoy you into submission.”
