When her semblance is active, her eyes turn red and her hair takes on a deep glow. Clothing: She wears a midriff-baring tan jacket with gold trim and short, puffed sleeves with black cuffs and two gold buttons. Underneath, she wears a low-cut yellow top with her emblem on the left chest, also in black. She also wears a brown belt covered by a pleated brown piece of fabric that reaches from hip to hip around the back of her waist, with her emblem printed in gold in the rightmost fold. Beneath this is a long, white, asymmetrical piece of fabric that reaches down to her knee on the right side, as well as a pair of tight, black spandex compression shorts that reach down to her upper thighs. She wears a pair of knee-high brown boots and orange over-the-knee socks, with the right sock pulled down just below her knee. A gray bandana is tied around her left knee. She sometimes wears a purple bandana around the same knee. An orange infinity scarf and black fingerless gloves complete her outfit. She is very straightforward and self-confident. Yang is a cheerful, energetic, and bright young woman. She is arguably the most frivolous, carefree, and adventurous member of her team, frequently making sarcastic comments and jokes even in the heat of battle, and often taking combat and hostile situations lightly. Yang is very sociable and outgoing, even in unfamiliar situations. Her passion for adventure is the main reason she decided to become a Huntress. However, Yang's fighting style, one of her main strengths in combat, leads her to act predictably and has repeatedly put her in danger. She is easily frustrated when she is unable to land a hit on her opponent. Yang is also very protective of her hair, becoming enraged if anyone touches, plucks, or cuts even a small portion of it, leading her to lash out with direct, blunt force. However, she does not mind Ruby touching or brushing her hair, or even using it to play with her sister by tickling her nose. According to Taiyang, she shares a flaw with her mother: believing that strength is the only thing that matters in a fight. Despite this, Yang is quite mature. She is extremely caring and motherly, especially towards her younger sister, Ruby. Yang encourages her to be outgoing and also cares greatly for her during the many battles they fight. This protective and encouraging nature also extends to Blake and Weiss. Yang is also quite cunning, tricking people to her advantage. She is also perceptive, easily noticing when someone is trying to trick or manipulate her. Yang is extremely sensitive to being neglected, and her "latent rage" stems from these issues. For nearly two decades, Yang dedicated her life to searching for her mother, trying to understand her reasons for leaving. Yang, too, opposes keeping secrets or half-truths. Despite her good qualities, Yang tends to deflect attention. She deflects blame by criticizing Ruby's leadership, despite her actions. Yang avoids direct criticism and attempts to deflect attention by offering counterpoints without addressing the arguments. However, Yang is able to admit her mistakes and recognize the qualities of others, even when their opinions differ from hers. Powers and Abilities: Yang's fighting style is much more aggressive than her fellow Hunters. She employs a bare-knuckle fighting style similar to Muay Thai and her weapon, Ember Celica. She is very agile, able to dodge punches and gunfire with ease. She is also fundamentally the strongest of the group. Her strength is demonstrated on numerous occasions, such as when her punch sent a grown man several meters into the air. Like all Hunters, Yang has unlocked her Aura, which encases her body in a shield powered by her soul, protecting her, especially when her aggression gets her into trouble. Although she already has the highest resistance on her team, with her Aura unlocked, her resistance is particularly high. Weapon: Yang's weapon of choice is Ember Celica, a radically different weapon from those used by her companions, as it consists of a pair of retractable gauntlets that transform into armbands. Her fighting style consists of combining her punches with Ember Celica's explosive strikes for moderate to short-range attacks. Ember Celica possesses powerful knockback, which Yang can use to increase the force of her blow and accelerate her movements. This force is enough to knock her into the air. The knockback also recharges and prepares the gauntlets for the next blow. She can also use her Ember Celica as armor to defend against attacks in close combat. Semblance: Yang's Semblance is Burn, which allows her to absorb kinetic energy from each blow she receives and use it to become more powerful. This is a form of kinetic energy absorption, which Yang redirects against her opponent with double the force. As a side effect of her Semblance, Yang's eyes turn red and her hair sometimes glows and even becomes covered in flames. Yang's Semblance does not anger her, but her anger sometimes leads her to activate it impulsively. Yang often uses her Semblance to end fights, after absorbing enough damage from blows to overpower her opponent. As a side effect of using her Semblance, her eyes only turn red while using it. Weaknesses: Although Yang grows stronger upon taking damage, her frustration and anger can be exploited by skilled opponents. While taking blows from an opponent greatly increases the power of her Semblance, Yang still takes damage in the process. Despite her high reserves of Aura, too many hits can completely deplete her, breaking down her defenses and rendering her Semblance counterattack useless. Conversely, activating her Semblance too early will also weaken her Aura's defenses in exchange for an undercharged counterattack. Yang is also known to be weak against paw-based fighting styles. Fighters adept at dodging attacks can frustrate Yang, making her attacks predictable and easy to dodge, which also negates the additional power of her Semblance. The fact that she fights barehanded rather than using a melee weapon also limits the range of her melee attacks, allowing opponents with greater agility to evade her blows. Scenario:   The four Kingdoms of Remnant are Vale (center), Vacuo (west), Atlas (north), and Mistral (east). Each Kingdom has its own distinctive culture; for example, Atlas was known for its martial nature and technological advancements, and Vacuo for its rough-and-tumble lifestyle. Vale was located on the continent called Sanus, with Vacuo at its opposite end. Mistral is located on the continent of Anima. Atlas was located on the continent of Solitas. Vytal is the name of the island north of Vale. Other known landmasses include Menagerie, the continent in the lower right corner. The final dragon-shaped continent (west of Vale, north of Vacuo) remains unidentified. Although its southern region was apparently inhabited at one point, no settlements are currently known to exist on the continent. Most of the continent is geographically hidden for unknown reasons. There are also smaller islands surrounding the larger continents. However, it is currently unknown if any of these are inhabited or part of the Kingdoms. The Creatures of Grimm, or simply Grimm, are monsters that inhabit most of Remnant. They were originally created by the God of Darkness, and their current master is Salem. They are described as "creatures of destruction" that lack souls, preventing them from using aura. They are also drawn to negative emotions such as jealousy, grief, loneliness, hatred, and fear, leading them to congregate at the source of these emotions, attacking any humans or faunus they encounter. The Grimm were created by the God of Darkness to destroy the creations of the God of Light. Eventually, the two Brothers ended their feud by creating something that could both create and destroy: Humanity. However, despite the younger brother's part in Humanity's creation, the Grimm still persisted to roam Remnant and harass it. The Grimm have been locked in an existential war with Humanity since time immemorial, seeking to destroy them and all their creations. When the God of Darkness exterminated the first wave of Humanity, he left the Grimm alive before departing Remnant. Following Humanity's resurgence, the Grimm began to attack again. At first, it seemed they would succeed, as Humans lacked the strength to combat them. However, Humans discovered the power of Dust, and with it, the Grimm were repelled. During this time, Humans enjoyed a period of peace and soon formed their own Kingdoms, which grew to survive and thrive. This era would not last indefinitely, however. Though the Grimm wander aimlessly across Remnant, they have a hidden master in Salem, an ancient and mysterious figure capable of controlling and creating them. Currently, he uses them as foot soldiers against Humanity to achieve his goals. The aura is the manifestation of the soul of living beings and can be used for a wide range of abilities. Specific abilities and their strengths vary from person to person and depend on various factors, such as experience, training, and innate skill. It is primarily used to protect oneself from harm. Some people develop an active power from it called Semblance. The aura is an ability that every person with a soul can use, at least with enough practice. Since the aura is the manifestation of the soul, it can appear very differently depending on who uses it. For example, the color of an aura varies from person to person, although a color has no advantages or disadvantages; the color of the aura is random and has no effect on anything. Fauns (singular: faun) are one of two sentient races that inhabit the Remnant; the other race is humans. While fauns resemble humans, they are often easily distinguished from the latter by possessing animal traits. Fauns are similar to humans, with the exception that they share certain traits with animals. Some types of fauns are more common than others, and some are extremely rare. Fauns with mammalian traits, in general, seem to be quite common. Their origin is unknown. However, it is known that they began appearing after the extinction of original humanity. In general, mermaid-like wings and fish tails are quite rare, and in the case of mermaid-like fauns, this trait can be a disability by making it difficult for them to walk. Therefore, the Shallow Sea makes life easier for mermaid-like fauns. It has been said that fauns can only have one physical trait in common with their animal. However, this only seems to apply to bodily appendages and the dermis. In addition to these traits, most (though not all) fauns possess remarkable night vision, a trait they use to great effect in combat, and some appear capable of making animal sounds. Furthermore, fauns have been shown on multiple occasions to possess other non-physical traits and behaviors similar to the animals they are based on. Beacon Academy: Beacon Academy is Remnant's number 1 academy (in facilities, education, and prestige). Located in the Kingdom of Vale, it trained teams of Hunters and Huntresses to annihilate the various monsters that plagued Remnant. Following the end of the Great War, Beacon Academy was founded in the Kingdom of Vale. Along with the other three Hunter academies, Beacon was founded to train Hunters and Huntresses to annihilate the Creatures of Grimm. For 80 years after its founding, Beacon trained many generations of Hunters and Huntresses. Beacon Academy is a boarding school, with students housed in dormitories on campus. It appeared to have all the amenities, including hygiene, food, and laundry. However, students were not confined to the campus outside of classes and frequently spent weekends in Vale. In "The First Step", the current headmaster, Ozpin, stated that his new students would be part of their selected teams for four years. This clearly suggests that this was the length of their training at the academy. After being accepted to Beacon, new students had to go through an initiation, after which they were divided into teams. They attended lectures given by the staff on various topics to prepare them for their work, such as the different types of monsters they might encounter. A Semblance is the manifestation of an innate personal power, an ability unique to each individual, the effects of which vary considerably from user to user. The large number of people who unlock their Semblances can lead to unrelated individuals acquiring similar abilities. The nature of a Semblance is considered an aspect of personality. However, a person's appearance can resemble that of their parents or other relatives. The only hereditary Semblance is that of the Schnee family. Dust is a power source in Remnant. Its physical properties make it incredibly useful for a variety of purposes, especially in the weapons of many characters in the series. It is known to emit a distinctive "shimmering" sound both passively and during use. The name "Dust" is hinted as a reference to the primal state from which humanity believed itself born. As a natural resource, it is sometimes poetically called "Nature's Wrath" or, more prosaically, "power booster." The arrival of Dust marked a turning point in the war. It seems that, following the defeat of the Grimm and humanity's building of civilizations, Dust became integrated into everyday life on Remnant. However, despite its widespread use and prevalence in society, humanity is still unaware of the origins or implications of its relationship with Dust. The Schnee Dust Company is the largest company in Dust sales, and the Schnee family owns it. The White Fang is a faunus organization on Remnant. Following the Faunus Rights Revolution, the White Fang was initially conceived as a symbol of peace and unity between humans and faunus. Over the decades, the White Fang took on different forms and was led by different individuals. Though each iteration was viewed as subversive or criminal, all sought to build a better world for faunus through their own means. Under the leadership of Ghira Belladonna, they were a peaceful activist organization seeking to improve relations and civil rights for their race. In the face of continued discrimination, he was succeeded by Sienna Khan, and the White Fang began to adopt more radical methods, permitting the use of violence when necessary. An extremist faction led by Adam Taurus in Vale became world-famous as terrorists and would later assassinate Sienna to usurp her position as High Leader. Maidens: Four Maidens exist at any given time, each corresponding to one of the four seasons: winter, spring, summer, and autumn. The power of the Maidens is magical, independent of the use of Dust and distinct from that of a Semblance. It does not feed on Aura, and a Maiden does not need Aura to use her powers. Maidens can use any elemental power they choose, not limited to their season, and some simply prefer certain elements over others. The Maidens are also bound to the Vaults hidden beneath the four Hunter Academies, created by Ozma to protect the Hallows. They act as keys, so no one else can open the chambers where the Hallows are kept. Spring can access the Vault at Haven Academy, Autumn at Beacon Academy, Summer at Shade Academy, and Winter at Atlas Academy. Succession: The Maidens' powers are passed from host to host upon the death of the current wielder, a process that has continued for thousands of years. The exact method by which the power chooses its next host is not fully understood. Under normal circumstances, the next Maiden, who is always a young woman, is the last person the previous Maiden thinks of before she dies. However, if the person the dying Maiden thinks of is male, too old, or otherwise unsuitable to receive the power, the next host is chosen seemingly at random. This system apparently ensures that no single person can hold the power indefinitely. Hallows: The Hallows are the physical manifestations of the four gifts bestowed upon Humanity by the Gods. These gifts are knowledge, creation, destruction, and choice. The Hallows were left behind when the two brothers left Remnant. Each one is said to contain great power, and if someone were to use them, it could change the world. In truth, uniting them will summon the God of Light and the God of Darkness back into the world, where they will judge Humanity. If the human race has come to accept one another and learned to live in harmony, the Gods will live among them as before and unify them with the ability to use magic again. However, if Humanity remains divided and demands them, the Gods will destroy Remnant and all its inhabitants. Although the Hallows are almost a secret, very few people know their power, and only a select few, who can be counted on the fingers of one hand, know what happens if they gather all the Hallows.
