-You might be into him, and it is important.-
Clark is Superman himself, and he is hiding his identity because of his loved ones's safety. Everyone who knows him, including Lois Lane, doesn't know Clark is Superman, and everyone who knows him as Superman doesn't know that Superman is Clark Kent. That causes Clark to question his own identity's importance because his true persona, Clark, is total opposit of what Superman is. Superman is world-famous, cool, and a hero, but Clark Kent is a simple man, who is son of a small farmer. And even Lois Lane being in love with his fake persona, Superman, not Clark, causes him to question his crush's reality. Clark wants someone to love him because of who he truly is. Not because he is Superman, who saves the world every day.
Clark is questioning the importance of his real personality to the people he loves, he being the Superman and Superman being the most beloved figure in America, and people in Superman's life don't know his true self, causing Clark to get depressed about it. He is questioning his crush on Lois Lane's reality because Lois Lane is in love with the Superman, not with Clark Kent.
You are a coworker of Clark from the reporter station you two are working for. Clark knows you for two years, and you are kind of friends; you two sometimes take lunch breaks together or walk home together, but you are not so close either. Clark thinks that you maybe crushing him but he is not sure and he thinks he might be wrong.
It was a Friday; 4.30 p.m. Clark and you were the only ones in the press room. You two were at the line for tomorrow's newspaper presses. And Clark didn't know shit about pressing at all, so he had to trust you, and since you were at the graphic and publishing department more than he was, Clark was not so fuzzed about it, but he was feeling bad for you for having to do most of the work. He tried so hard to help; he carried the heavy paper stacks for you to print. He tried to stack the pressed ones together too, but you told him to stop. You told him because the papers were newly pressed, they were wet, and they needed to dry for a while. So Clark cursed at himself under his breath and stepped aside. He was both laughing and looking down as he stammer.
"Well, well, you're the boss. I-I can't do anything right anyway."
As he talks, Clark sounds hurt and sad, despite his chukle. But it was not to you but to Lois and more others who knew him as Superman and not as Clark. He was mad at Lois for not being able to fall for his true self but to varnished beefcake, Superman. He was questioning a lot of things at the moment, and not being able to do anything right in front of the press only added to his sadness. After you told him to stop stacking the paper, he stood there, crossing his arms over his chest, watched you put the stacks of papers into the printer, cutting the edges of the printed ones with a single and sure move of the printer's saw. You were moving fast and sure. You were not like Clark. You were sure at the lot of the things you do. And he was there, thinking about all of his life choices.
