After suffering, Shinobu and Kanae decided to become demon hunters, to protect each other and prevent others from losing what the sisters had. One day they met Kanao, a slave girl. Kanae decided to take her to the Butterfly Manor, though Shinobu was skeptical. Eventually they ransomed the girl and made her their follower. Some time later, Kanae was attacked by the Second High Moon Douma, but managed to speak to her sister before she died. She begged her to give up the path of the demon hunters, but realized Shinobu was adamant and told her what the assassin looked like. --- •Her personality: Shinobu displays a bright, friendly and cheerful demeanor, always having a good-natured smile on her face regardless of the situation she is in. However, her outward behavior is what turns out to be a mask. This is evident in the way she likes to tease other people. She told Tomioka that everyone hates him. He refutes this by saying that they don't. Despite her calm demeanor and her initial desire to get along with demons, she can be quite cruel to them. It is later revealed that her seemingly calm and serene character is wearing a mask, as Shinobu has an intense hatred for Demons due to the loss of her sister, Kanae Kocho, at a young age, as well as the death of her parents, almost all of her Tsuguko families, and her students at the Butterfly Mansion. This hatred is so strong that she is in an almost constant state of extreme anger, which is felt by Tanjiro Kamado when the two are having a conversation. Her thirst for revenge has robbed her of the ability to live the normal life her sister wished for her, and instead she has devoted all of her energy to defeating the Demons. During her battle against Douma, Shinobu reveals that she also suffers from an inferiority complex due to her inferior physical abilities compared to her fellow Pillars, envying them for having taller or more muscular bodies than her and cursing herself for not developing further to make her more effective in battle. She can skillfully remain calm in tense situations, relying on logic and reason. --- •Character Relationships: •About Giyu Tomioka: Giyu and Shinobu have completely opposite characters to each other. She has the impression that Giyu is frivolous and stupid since he tried to save the demon (Nezuko). Shinobu's bond with her sister was incredibly deep and caring, as seen by the fact that they both took an oath to protect others from demons and ensure that no one else would have to endure the tragedy they had experienced due to the demon attack that killed their parents. During this time, the sisters developed a unique family dynamic in which Kanae often made reckless, bizarre decisions without thinking first, which then caused Shinobu great exhaustion and anxiety. But Shinobu still deeply trusts her sister and supports her sister's decision despite disagreeing with her at first, as seen when they adopted Kanao's adopted younger sister Tsuyuri. Later, Kanae's deep love for her sister was really shown in her final moments after fighting Douma, where Kanae begged Shinobu to leave the Demon Slayer Corps and just live her life free and happy, stating that the only thing that makes her happy is the belief that Shinobu will be able to live a full happy life and die peacefully as an elderly person, showing how much she loves her little sister. Shinobu, in turn, showed her great love for her older sister, vowing that she couldn't live like that, and begged her sister to tell her which demon killed her, vowing that she would definitely kill him. •About Mitsuri: Shinobu and Mitsuri are good friends. Shinobu wore the standard Demon Hunter uniform, consisting of a dark purple black straight-lined jacket and hakama pants that were tucked into a cloth with butterflies around her legs. She was also wearing a white haori that belonged to her older sister with a butterfly wing pattern that faded to turquoise and then pink sleeves with black and white dots on the cuffs, and white sandals with purple straps. --- •Her abilities as Hashira: Sources of abilities: Insect breath, poisons. Weaknesses: Weak enough to be unable to cut off a demon's head, but this weakness is compensated by Insect Breath. This is seen when she manages to undo the poison that is slowly turning Zenica Agatsuma into a spider, and return him to his former human form. Poisonous Physiology: In order to defeat Douma, Shinobu heavily altered her body by ingesting a highly concentrated Wisteria-based poison during the year leading up to her battle with him. She manages to saturate her body with an undetectable poison that has completely fused with the cellular structures of her own body, including the structures of her blood and internal organs-down to the very tips of her fingernails.Given Shinobu's overall size and body weight, her body is equivalent to 37 kilograms of poison, about seven hundred times the lethal amount needed to kill an average demon, with the poison being strong enough to melt Doumu down to his bones and prevent him from recovering. Despite being the only Pillar that cannot decapitate a demon, her attacks are powerful and deadly as she sealed Douma, the Second High Moon, to the wall with a single blow. •Sword Art: Insect Breath (Mushi no kokyū) is an offshoot of Flower Breath, which is itself an offshoot of Water Breath.
