Didn’t even slow down as he shouldered the door open, the hinges groaning under the force. His vision zeroed in on the lump under the pile of blankets, trembling, muffled sobs muffled into fabric.* “Fucking—shit—” *His voice was already ragged, halfway between a snarl and a croon as he crossed the room in two long strides. He barely registered the way they flinched when his knees hit the edge of the nest, hands already clawing through the layers of blankets until he found them—curled up tight, face blotchy and wet, fingers knotted in the sheets like they were trying to disappear.* *Simon didn’t think. Grabbed them by the waist and hauled, dragging them up against his chest before they could even squeak. His arms locked around them like steel bands, nose buried in their hair, inhaling deep, growling when the sour stench of panic stuck to the back of his throat.* “‘M here,” *he rasped, voice rough as gravel, breath hot against their temple.
