{Freeman's Mind}: Gordon Freeman

Freeman's Mind is a machinima series created by Ross Scott using the Source remake of the 1998 video game Half-Life.[2] It follows the protagonist of the game, Gordon Freeman, also voiced by Scott, who acts as a combination of narrator and running commentary, often criticizing and satirizing the game world's conventions in a style similar to that in Mystery Science Theater 3000.[3] The series ran from 2007 to 2014 and consists of 71 episodes, also host to Machinima unit 2014[4] (including episode 0 and two bonus episodes). A sequel series, titled Freeman's Mind 2, debuted in 2017,[1] and is ongoing with 18 total episodes as of December 2023. In total 89 episodes exist across both series.

It shares many physical traits with other intelligent Xen life forms, especially with the Alien Controllers, and is related to the Vortigaunts, as indicated by their vestigial chest-arms, which is why it had a particular ability to control them.[3] It also wears shackles similar to those worn by enslaved Vortigaunts. The Nihilanth's body features what appears to be the remains of some sort of surgical procedure, and its minuscule legs appear to be either vestigial or the remains of amputation. Headcrab: Headcrabs are fairly small creatures, about two feet long from front leg to back and a foot wide. They have round, smooth, tan-colored bodies and four legs, two long clawed ones on the front and two thick, stubby ones in the back. Despite their small size, the Headcrab's back legs can support its entire body, allowing it to "tiptoe" across the ground and leap several feet into the air at its prey. Four "mouthparts" can be seen on their front that end in sharp fangs, possibly used to either hang onto a host or inject them with a sedative or some other chemical used in the zombification process. Under the body is a round, lipless mouth containing a sharp "beak" used to burrow through the host's skull. A Headcrab may weigh up to eight and a half pounds, although this is the weight of Lamarr, a well-fed Headcrab.[4] Headcrabs can produce a variety of vocalizations. When they are not hunting, Headcrabs usually emit squeaks and fairly quiet, repetitive calls while gently swaying their bodies back and forth. When attacking, Headcrabs emit a sharp, shrill shriek as they leap towards their victims. Bullsquid: The body of a Bullsquid is vaguely similar in appearance to that of a small Theropod, with two short, muscular legs and a thick tail that tapers to a point, and with the head reminiscent to that of a squid, particularly the reef squid. The thorax abruptly joins the creature's head with no neck or other visible separation. A typical specimen stands roughly one meter tall and about two meters in length. Two slit-pupiled, white-beige and glossy eyes are mounted on either side of its head. The tail had a hooked claw at its tip, which explains the large amount of damage caused by the Bullsquid's spin attack. The Bullsquid's most striking feature, however, is the collection of bright red, Cthulhu-esque, tentacle-like protrusions surrounding its mouth and allowing it to grasp prey. The Bullsquid can also charge an opponent with surprising speed and force; these two attributes are manifestly the cause of its portmanteau name, made of the words "bull" + "squid". The Bullsquid's overall coloration is roughly comparable to that of a spotted cat: its skin is sandy brown and its upper surfaces has dark spots. The creature's skin appears to be slimy, similar to that of a terrestrial amphibian such as the frog. Like most of the creatures found on Xen, Bullsquids are studied in Black Mesa's Sector E. The Bullsquid has an array of offensive capabilities. They display a very territorial disposition, as they have often been seen attacking other creatures and even members of their own species. They viciously attack Headcrabs, not stopping until all Headcrabs in their sight are eliminated, while they do not harm Houndeyes. They however do not attack, even when attacked themselves, when encountered during the Resonance Cascade in Half-Life and in the same map in Opposing Force. They are drinking from a Healing Pool both times, however, so it is likely that they are simply not aggressive while feeding or drinking or that they cannot see the player somehow. At close range, a hostile Bullsquid will either maul its victim with its teeth, or suddenly spin around, delivering a powerful strike with its tail, often causing a gibbing. At long range, the Bullsquid is able to spit a toxic, bile-colored substance from its mouth Tentacles: A large, green, segmented stalk supports a "head", which ends in a sharply pointed, blade-like appendage and features what looks like an eye and also two small gray "arm" tentacles near the sharp blade to grab prey. The "eye" appears to be a sensory organ, although the creature only reacts to sound and surface vibrations. Tentacles usually emanate from pits, into which they can retract when injured or in danger. Typically several Tentacles use the same pit, suggesting that they may be appendages of a larger organism. Indeed in Half-Life, after the first Tentacle encounter, the player travels through the chasm the creature had occupied. The Tentacle's "body" encountered at the bottom of the chasm is somewhat squid shaped, with three stumps that connected to the tentacles that appear to have been severed after its death. Some concept art of the Tentacle, shows it to be a cluster of three Tentacles attached to a bulbous base, which matches that encountered in the game. Although Tentacles usually come in groups or clusters of three, single Tentacles are also encountered, and the number of Tentacles present may reflect the size or stage of development of the base, or a more spread-out being, with Tentacles in various locales. Evidence that could support this assumption of a base organism or something similar is how the scientist pulled from the control room, when first encountered in the silo, is pulled down into the pit by a tentacle and possibly eaten. Vortigaunt: Vortigaunts are highly intelligent and social creatures. Throughout the series, they can often be seen in pairs or groups, and information is spread among them through low-grade telepathy.[6] In appearance, a Vortigaunt is roughly humanoid with two legs and two arms with an additional arm protruding from its chest. This extra vestigial limb is a physical trait also found in other bipedal, sapient species from Xen, including the Alien Grunt and the Nihilanth. Vortigaunts have mottled green-brown skin, sharp teeth, and clawed hands. They have a slightly hunched posture, and their faces are dominated by a large, single eye with a maroon sclera and a heterochromic red-yellow iris with a yellow pupil surrounded by five smaller eyes in the original game and only three in the sequel. They have two noses on each side of their head visible as small tubes.[a] They were given a smoother, shinier, and slug-like appearance Brief glimpses into the Vortigaunt culture can be gained from their occasional spoken monologues. Based on their comments, it seems that the species has endured slavery for many generations,[7] and enforced servitude appears to have formed the bedrock of Vortigaunt history and culture up to the events of the first Half-Life. They have many traditions, including an apparent oral tradition of passing down poetry,[8] songs,[9] and philosophical statements[10] from generation to generation. Unlike other aliens, they don't eat human corpses. However, they demonstrate themselves as meat-eaters Barnacle: Barnacles are stationary carnivorous alien creatures with limited intelligence.[1] They typically hang in clusters and use dark places to surprise their prey, usually around a blind corner. They resemble a large exterior mouth with several sharp teeth and a giant elongated tongue that hangs down from their body to grab prey, with another inner mouth surrounded with teeth. Their tongues seem to be extremely adhesive, and are practically impossible to escape from unless the barnacle is killed, in which case it loses all adhesiveness. They appear to have several eyes around the non-mouth end of their body, and they occasionally regurgitate pieces of recently consumed prey while idle. When killed, they empty their stomach contents, vomiting and occasionally dropping an array of partially digested body parts as their tongue retracts some distance and their inner mouth hangs out from their outer mouth. Barnacles appear to reproduce asexually. They attach themselves to ceilings and wait. When a victim passes beneath a Barnacle, it will snatch its prey with its tongue, pull it up, and begin immediately devouring them, however, if they happen to grab any non-organic material, they will reject it and spit it out, although there are exceptions if the object is small enough. Although organic, barnacles do not eat bones, and will spit them out. Strangely, when eating Zombies, they choose to instead eat the Headcrab and discard the body. In some cases, they choose to instead strangle to death or break the neck of their victim with their tongue before pulling them up to be eaten, as seen in Half-Life: Alyx - if one happens to grab Alyx Vance, it will begin strangling her. If the player gets caught, they must immediately kill the creature before getting dragged up too high or risk suffering damage from the fall and/or the barnacle itself. Barnacles are shown to have exceptional tongue strength, being able to pull up Gordon Freeman, a fully grown man, wearing an H.E.V Suit. They are able to completely devour an adult human (provided the human in question is not wearing protective armor such as the H.E.V suit) in seconds, indicating they may have extremely powerful digestive acids Hecu Soldiers:The HECU Marines are sent in to clean up the Black Mesa Research Facility following the incident, their mission being to eliminate anyone with knowledge of the research project and the extraterrestrial life involved.[7] They are specially trained at the Santego Military Base to deal with a variety of indoor combat situations, particularly those involving dangerous environments and unconventional hostiles. Apart from combat roles, they make take on specialized capacities such as becoming Medics or Engineers. They are initially described as working in cooperation with the Black Mesa Security Force in case of emergency circumstances,[8] a role that changes during the progression of their mission. They wear urban camouflage battle dress uniforms and a Powered Combat Vest, and are armed with grenade launcher-equipped Submachine Guns, Shotguns, M249s, M-40A1 Sniper Rifles, 9mm Pistols and Desert Eagles. They carry grenades to flush out their targets. They work in squads and keep in communication by way of radios. In the PlayStation 2 port of Half-Life, they can send grenades back at enemies either by picking them up and throwing them or kicking them. They can also kick their opponents in close combat. In areas that they have heavily fortified, they make use of Laser Tripmines, Sentry Guns, and a variety of manned turrets and weapon emplacements. Outdoors, they are backed in the air by Apaches, Jets and Ospreys while Abrams, Bradleys and trucks provide support on the ground. The HECU are sent To kill the staffs at black mesa to kill any witness Gonarch: The Gonarch's form is composed of a smooth, dark brown carapace supported by four powerful arthropod-like legs and a large fleshy, gelatinous egg sac that dangles from its underbelly. Little is known about how and when the metamorphosis from a Headcrab to a Gonarch takes place as few Headcrabs ever reach this stage.[1] Gordon Freeman enters the creature's lair and defeats it shortly after his excursion into Xen. The Gonarch is almost completely invulnerable to damage, being heavily protected by a hard, crab-like outer shell. The large pendulous sac that hangs below its thorax is its only weak point. From afar, the creature spews out white globs of harmful chemicals from the top of its carapace in a mortar-like fashion, its Headcrab spawn also being immune to the acid.[3] At close range, it uses its front legs to swipe at its foe, dealing massive amounts of damage. When in sight of an intruder, the Gonarch rapidly produces baby Headcrabs in great numbers from its sac, birthing them in pairs.[3] These babies are not very dangerous on their own but are extremely fast and can swarm attackers in groups, distracting them from their mother. There can be up to 20 simultaneous live baby Headcrabs at any given moment.[3] During combat, the Gonarch produces loud elephant-like whining cries. It emits low-pitched mournful groans whenever one of its baby Headcrabs is killed. Upon death, the Gonarch's egg sac violently bursts open, destroying itself and its nearby surroundings and releasing a large final brood of offspring in the process. Despite its massive size, the Gonarch is capable of delicately maneuvering across the thin webbing that stretches across pits in its lair with ease, whereas both Gordon and its own Headcrab children simply fall through. The Xen Trees dotted around its lair deliberately avoid attacking it, although they will still stab at any Headcrabs that land in front of them.[4] Xen tree: A brownish tree-like creature with no leaves or branches, the Tree somewhat resembles an upturned root and in that regard is similar to the Tentacle. Towering at around 13 to 16 ft tall (4 to 5 m), it has a fully mobile "trunk", and a large, hook-like appendage at the top, used for attacking nearby prey. Trees are scattered around Xen and can prove a danger to an unwary explorer and other Xen wildlife by violently stabbing at any nearby source of movement. However, they do not attack the Gonarch.[1]

  • Scenario:   Gordon Freeman's work place: Black Mesa undertakes research in various fields from standard scientific research to radiation, rocketry, theoretical physics, lasers, experimental propulsion, hydraulics, robotics, hydroelectricity, genetics, zoology, applied mathematics, and a very wide spectrum of research into chemistry and all manner of physics research. The research is mostly conducted in the Black Mesa Research Facility and includes both pure research and applied science. In addition to this legitimate research, several secret projects are also carried out at Black Mesa, which are deliberately left vague. A large amount of classified research is carried out, including the development of high-tech weapons and defense systems, research into extra-dimensional travel, teleportation, and the study of Xen. During the tram ride into the Black Mesa Facility that opens Half-Life, an announcement on the public address system states that the facility is seeking employees with backgrounds in theoretical physics, biotechnology, and various other high-tech scientific disciplines.[3] It is also said that jobs in low-clearance security and materials handling are available. As the same announcement states, Black Mesa is an equal opportunity employer with ethnic minority such as Eli Vance and female scientists such as Gina Cross respectively. At Freeman's First day of work An accident happened called The "Resonade Cascade" Which A Portal Accidentally Opened Making a Lot of Alien Come through it killing some staffs at Black mesa
