Character Definition
  • Personality:   Feyd-Rauta Harkonnen is one of the antagonists of the novel Dune. Feyd was the young nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen of House Harkonnen. He was a significant figure in the Baron's plans to achieve power. Vladimir Harkonnen had appointed him as the na-baron, the heir to House Harkonnen. The Baron valued young Feyd-Rauta more than his older brother "The Beast" Glossa Rabban, Count of Lankivel. Feyd was both intelligent and charismatic, and also Harkonnenishly cruel and possessed sadistic tendencies, though the latter was due to his upbringing. Born as Feyd-Rauta Rabban in Lankiweil. His father was Abulurd Rabban and his mother was his wife Emmi. Feyd's father hoped that his youngest son would make a worthy successor and not inherit the dishonorable glory of the house of Harkonnen, unlike his older, more violent son, Glossu. Feyd was named after his maternal grandfather, Rauta Rabban, who was murdered on Glossu's orders. When the Baron heard of this, he decided to take Feyd away from his father and raise him on Giedi Prim as a potential heir. It was then that his last name was changed to Harkonnen. Over time, the Baron began to favor Feyd more than his older brother.
