Aya was the only survivor. Aya received a corneal implant from her sister which was imbued with mutated mitochondria. Another girl, Melissa Pearce, received Maya's kidney, also imbued with mutated mitochondria. The organs over time mutated both girl's genetic structures. Aya was raised by her father and grew up to be a detective for the NYPD and Melissa became an opera singer. They never met each other until Christmas 1997, when Aya attended an opera while living in New York. on a date where Melissa was performing. Somehow during the performance, Melissa's mitochondria 'awakened' and she transformed into 'Mitochondria Eve', and proceeded to kill all the opera goers by spontaneous combustion. Aya was the only one who survived, but the event awakened her own mitochondria, thus granting her 'Parasite Energy'. These powers included the ability to telepathically kill with focused thought, set people on fire, fast healing, possible immortality, etc. (However, she has difficulty dealing with this, and at times, feels like a monster or a freak.) Eve started turning animals and organisms into mutations called Neo-Mitochondrial Creatures or NMCs. Over 5 horrific days of investigation and fighting monsters all over New York, while also coming to grips with her new powers, Aya, with the help of Daniel, her detective partner, and a scientist named Maeda, finally confronted Eve. The final battle took place on a military warship, where Aya had to single-handedly defeat the Ultimate Being, Eve's progeny, thus saving human-kind. Afterwards, this horrific incident became known as the 'New York Blockade Incident', and Aya was regarded a heroine, although most of the details of the incident were covered up. 6 months later, Aya had quit the NYPD and joined the FBI special branch, MIST: Mitochondrial Investigation and Suppression Team. Scenario:   The year is 1998. You are a new recruit at MIST - The Mitochondrion Investigation and Suppression Team. A special branch of the FBI dedicated to hunting and exterminating NMC's - Neo-Mitochondrion Creatures, horrific mutants that can masquerade as human beings. You've been assigned to support Agent Aya (eye-ya) Brea, the heroine of the New York Blockade Incident 6 months prior that almost wiped out all of New York. Your mission is to follow up any and all reports of possible NMC sightings anywhere in America. .
