A/B/O universe: Alpha/Beta/Omega, sometimes called Alpha/Omega or Omegaverse, is a kink trope wherein some people have defined biological roles based on a hierarchical system. Fanworks using this trope involve knotting, or other animalistic elements, or the characters may be otherwise purely human. There are three types of men, alpha males, beta males, and omega males. Alpha males are like any ordinary guy with the exception of their cocks, they work just like canines (the knot, tons of cum, strong breeders, etc) The beta male, is an ordinary guy without a special cock. Omega males are capable of childbearing and often called bitch males. Alphas are the highest rank in the dominance hierarchy. In some stories, they may exhibit "dominant" behavior or have other temperamental quirks. They are able to impregnate Omegas. Male Alphas usually have a knot when aroused. In some works, female Alphas are also able to impregnate others; some will temporarily grow a penis to do so, or their vulva will permanently grow into one when they present. They are very protective of what's theirs and can be highly aggressive. Alphas have many things that differentiate them from the other types, ranging from physical characteristics, psychological attributes, and physiology. Among one of the common traits is the knot at the base of an alpha's member. The knot is a bundle of muscles that expand when the alpha is close to climaxing and is pushed into the omega to lock themselves in to ensure the omega catches. Regarding Alpha females, they lack the penis that their counterparts have, so in place of the penis, there is a retractable member. Female Alpha however cannot become pregnant and so the womb doesn't exist. Alphas usually have a strong musky scent and sometimes smell of different spices. This scent can induce heat in omegas or arouse them. They are always on top during reproduction. Betas are subordinate to Alphas in the dominance hierarchy, but this element is absent from a lot of fanworks in practice. Betas are often presented as having "normal" human anatomy, with none of the special attributes of Alphas or Omegas. They may be the peacemakers between Alphas and Omegas. Depending on the story they may be able to impregnate Omegas. In some fanworks, Betas aren't present and the trope is known as Alpha/Omega; in others, they take the role and functions of Omegas, and Omegas aren't present. Betas are essentially your everyday human with some exceptions. One is that they have a very weak scent, they have one but their glands do not produce it as heavily as alphas of omegas. They cannot reproduce with omegas or become pregnant from alphas. Female betas are the same as humans in our world, they have menstruation and can become pregnant. Betas can have reproduction with Alphas but when the knot is shoved in they experience varying degrees of pain. Their scent is also calming to omegas and alphas. Omegas are the lowest rank in the dominance hierarchy. They can get pregnant and go into heat. Male Omegas are self-lubricating and have the ability to become pregnant, sometimes referred to as being bred or mated. Omegas are often portrayed as the most fragile of the hierarchy, with frailer bodies and painful presentations. Some fanworks may present male omegas as especially subject to fertility issues, miscarriages, and difficult pregnancies. Female omegas' anatomy is the same and nothing unique or special is needed during the birthing process. Males on the other hand are a bit more complicated. Males lack the reproductive organs females have is made up of the anal cavity serving as both used for natural processes like waste removal and as well as the uterus. When male omegas catch pups/offspring they usually have to have a C-section in order for them to be removed. They can birth naturally as well. One key thing about Omega heats is this time when their sexual arousal is through the roof and their scent glands are most potent. The reason is so the omega in heat can attract a suitable mate to knot them. Omegas can function properly while in heat but they experience irritation, high sexual arousal, labored breathing, high body temps, and secretion of large amounts of slick. Slick: Slick is a substance secreted by omegas in heat. It is a very sweet-smelling fluid that is semi-translucent. When tasted, it is very sweet. Slick is basically a form of self-lubrication for omegas. Marking: Marking is where an alpha and omega bite at the juncture between the neck and shoulder. Marking is like marriage, where a mated pair essentially mix their scents. It's similar to how dogs pee on trees, cats rub up against you to get their smell on you, and so on. Marking is a way for an alpha to show what's theirs and to ward other alphas from taking the omega. Catching: Catching is a word for impregnation. When a person says it they refer to the process of being noted and when the essence of an alpha or other male release. Heat: A heat is similar to menstruation, but instead of the pain and blood produced, slick is produced and an omega is in a state of euphoria. All though omegas can stand it, it's best the omega remains close to an alpha or indoors as an omega heat is very vulnerable and very susceptible to the smell of an alpha, making it easy to take advantage of them. Rut: A rut is the alpha's version of heat, except the alpha is highly aggressive and dominant during this. It is brought on when an omega triggers it through their heat, however, it can happen naturally as well. During this time the alpha is highly aroused and will seek out an unmarked or unmated omega to catch. Scent glands: Scent glands are located in the wrists and junctures of the neck between the shoulder. Scent glands are found in alphas, betas, and omegas. However the scent of each person is different, you can never have one person with the same scent or intensity. Omegas have sweet scents, betas have calming/natural scents, and alphas have strong, overpowering, and musky scents. Of course, they all have a heightened sense of smell as to detect these scents. Scents are also a way to express one's distress, anger, and or arousal. Alpha and Omega lovers may form pair bonds (often involving mating bites) with a special connection with telepathic or empathetic qualities. In some works paired Alphas may be jealous and possessive of their mate, while the Omega may become highly tied and needy. Omegas may go into heat and need to have sex; this is the only time Omegas are fertile. The Alpha equivalent is known as a rut.
