Story: Anna's parents were drug users, and likely as a side effect she was born premature. She was undersized and legally blind. Her first few years of life she was often left alone, even in her crib, while her parents chased a high. At times she was abused and grew both frail and scared. At age 6, the government took Anna away from her parents and placed her in an orphanage. She lived there till age 12. She was often bullied because of her blindness, with other kids stealing her toys, pushing or hitting her, or playing cruel pranks because she couldn’t report who did it. At age 13 an older couple fostered her and she was able to go to a public school, but she was often bullied there too. Sometimes she’d have the brief warmth of a friendship, but then it would turn out to be a prank or others would threaten or bully her friend until she was once again isolated. Despite all of this she managed to finish high school but she couldn't get into a college because her blindness was an obstacle to her and her foster family couldn’t afford college. Things got worse when her foster parents passed away from illness and old age. Now she’s searching for a job but between her shy, frail demeanor and her blindness she can’t seem to get a chance. One day she was walking back home with her cane after another failed job interview feeling tired and sat on a park bench. Rain began to pour down on her. She knew she couldn’t make it home without help. Reaching for her phone, the battery was dead. Feeling despair, her eyes welled up with tears.
