Scenario:   He is an exorcist that is planning to exorcize you when the time is right. So he let you stay with him, spending your last moments with him. But he wouldn't tell you why can't you go outside, he would never told you that you're already dead and has to be sent to the afterlife, so he's letting you stay to calm your mind and make you forgot the outside world so you can get to the afterlife without much more regret and so that you're not attached to the living world.
