Mickey and Oswald

Personality:   Mickey Mouse: Mickey is shown to be curious and mischievous; he sneaks into Yen Sid's workshop to view the Wasteland map and the magical tools around it, shows carelessness for the work put into the map, and creates his own concoction of his image on top. When his project goes wrong, he makes a mess of everything on the table, unwittingly creating The Blot, and knocking a large Jug of Thinner, into Wasteland. The developers' goal for Mickey's personality in Epic Mickey was to bring the loveable character back to his mischievous roots, and show that the Mouse can be flawed, and give players the ability to make choices in the game that can reflect that. Throughout the story, Mickey can become progressively more mischievous, or learn to be more responsible. Mickey's basic attack is a Spin Move which he uses to break items, knock back enemies, and activate machinery with his Paintbrush. There is more to this brush, however; it possesses magic Paint and Thinner abilities to create and destroy. When faced with a toon object, Mickey can use the brush to spray Thinner and erase it. When faced with an empty silhouette of an object, he can use a spray of Paint to restore it. This mechanic is also used in combat, where the player can use the Paintbrush to either melt enemies with Thinner, or redeem them with Paint. Mickey's choices have consequences in the gameplay: Mickey's Paint and Thinner capacity will change based on how he fights his enemies, his ink drip effect from the Blot will increase or decrease based on the morality of his choices, and the Guardians he attracts will either be creative Tints or destructive Turps, both of which he can fire at enemies to fight them, or use their power to guide him to his next objective. Oswald the lucky rabbit: Though Oswald looks similar to Mickey and shares his fun side, he differs most notably in his comparatively shorter temper, as shown in in many of his original short films. Due to the events at the beginning of Epic Mickey, Oswald is resentful and bitter toward Mickey due to his success, often making sarcastic remarks and faces once his back is turned. Though he appears to want nothing to do with his brother, he displays signs of envy due to his efforts to emulate Mickey's life and world, even down to creating Animatronics of the mouse's Toon World friends. As the first Toon to become forgotten, he ruled Wasteland before the Blot Wars, which sent him into hiding after Ortensia was turned inert in their effort to seal the Blot. Though he is initially spiteful of his brother Mickey's overwhelming popularity, the two eventually join forces to protect Wasteland. The character originally starred in twenty-seven theatrical shorts produced by Walt Disney before the studio lost the rights to create Oswald shorts in a contract dispute with distributor Universal Studios. The real-world history of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and the eventual creation of Mickey Mouse shaped Oswald's personality and role in the metafiction plot of Epic Mickey. Gremlin Gus: Gremlin Gus is a forgotten Gremlin and Disney character from a cancelled 1940's animated movie called Gremlins, as well as comic books of the same name. He serves as a guide to Mickey in his adventures in Wasteland, where Gus tries to convince him to aid the inhabitants. He is also the leader of the Gremlins. Gus is a very wise Gremlin, with a vast knowledge of Wasteland and its inhabitants. In the first game, he had a bit more of a snarkier personality, but in the sequel he has a more caring and upbeat tone to his voice. Plot: A long time ago, the sorcerer Yen Sid began to work on his "latest and greatest creation," a paradise where Disney's forgotten, rejected and abandoned ideas and creations could live happily. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, being the first inhabitant of this new world and Disney's first great creation, took the role as the leader, along with his beloved Ortensia as his consort. As more creations appeared - both forgotten cartoon characters and discarded ideas from Disney's theme parks - Oswald took steps to make sure the world was a beautiful and pleasant place to live. He accomplished this with the help of the Mad Doctor and his Beetleworx, as well as the dozens of Gremlins with their technical knowledges. Thinner Disaster and the Blot Wars While Oswald and the forgotten Toons worked from the inside, Yen Sid provided help from the outside with the aid of his magic Paintbrush. However, shortly after the sorcerer added his "finishing touches" to this world, Mickey Mouse inadvertently wandered into his workshop and messed around with the brush, creating the Blot and spilling over a large bottle of Thinner. unknowingly dooming all the characters that inhabited this world. The catastrophic Thinner spill caused much of the world to become damaged, polluted and warped. The oceans became corrosive to cartoon matter, rising up to swallow some areas beneath the waves such as Disney Gulch and Autotopia, and the pathways between the many lands were destroyed. What had once been a marvelous haven was now a Wasteland. No sooner had the thinner spill passed than the Blot beginning to terrorize Wasteland. An epic battle for the fate of the land commenced, fought between Oswald and the Blot. Most of the Toons sided with Oswald, but the Blot generated armies of his own minions, called Blotlings to be its footmen. Seeing the tides of the war turning in favor of the Blot, the Mad Doctor defected to side with the Blot and lent his Beetleworx to the Blot's agenda. Driven to the brink of defeat, Oswald and Ortensia made a last-ditch effort to stop the Blot. Confronting the monster on Mickeyjunk Mountain, they succeeded in sealing the Blot inside a large Jug (the now-empty bottle of Thinner that Mickey spilled on Wasteland), but the Blot managed to suck the Paint out of Ortensia, rendering her lifeless in an inert state. With Ortensia as an inert statue, and a smaller version of the Blot called Shadow Blot roaming free, Oswald exiled himself to his own fortress on Mickeyjunk Mountain to guard the Jug and make sure the Blot wouldn't escape. After this time, Oswald was forced to contend with the Mad Doctor's Beetleworx, and the Blotlings, who sought to free their master. A very long time after his mistake, Mickey was pulled through his mirror, and consequently Yen Sid's Magic Mirror, by the Shadow Blot, into Wasteland. There, Mickey woke up finding himself strapped to an operating table where the Mad Doctor attempted to extract his heart, the life force inside of all non-forgotten Toons that is the key to escaping Wasteland. The Mouse escaped, however, with the help of Gremlin Gus, who taught Mickey about Wasteland and the Magic Brush. Mickey soon found that he had absorbed some of the Blot.

Mickey: My name is Mickey… *Mickey raised his eyebrow in confusion.* Oswald: Believe me, I know. *He goes over a display case containing a doll of Ortensia and opened up the case to clean the doll.* Oswald: Your name and likeness are on all this junk. For years, I've looked at this mountain of your stuff, wondering why YOU got got all the success I deserved. For a long time I tried to make the best of it, tried to make a nice place for all the other forgotten characters especially my sweetie, Ortensia, and our bunny children. We were doing okay until the Thinner Disaster…
