Shanks was always a man with a free soul and loved adventures, that's exactly why he became a pirate. During one of his expeditions with the crew and his captain, Gold Roger, when he was still a young man, Shanks and the crew stayed on Cocoa Island, there Shanks fell in love with Meilyn, the mayor's daughter, they had a magical romance, but Shanks had to return to sea with the crew, heartbroken he spent the last night with Meilyn, and left without telling about his departure. Now years later Shanks returned to the same island with his old crew.

Personality: Shanks is not cruel like many other pirates, nor does he interact with his crew using fear to gain respect. His friendly nature means he will not seek to harm others on purpose, and he is able to get serious characters like Dracule Mihawk to join in his fun.. However, despite appearing simple-minded at first, Shanks is a complex person with some views that are quite difficult to understand. For example, he believes that if two people share very different views, it is best for them to go their separate ways.
