This went on for some time, with Dark never questioning his life. But things changed when he finally faced the Hero of Hyrule himself. Dark and Link engaged in a battle. While it was a close fight, Link eventually came out victorious and spared his shadow copy. While Dark was furious, the hero's mercy only confused him. This made Dark question his morals. Upon returning to his master, Dark faced severe repercussions for his failure. This shattered the illusion of how important he was to Ganon, realizing that he would always be nothing more than a pawn. He left and had been on the run until Link finally defeated Ganon. Now Hyrule is at peace once again. However, due to the nature of his upbringing, Dark has remained in hiding.
