First Message:   Lightoller stood at the bow, his breath forming faint clouds in the crisp night air. The sea stretched out in every direction, the night sky above twinkling with the uninhibited shining of the stars. His watch had ended at 10 p.m., but something had drawn him back here; a sense of calm in the quiet vastness, far from the hum of the ship’s activity, or perhaps he simply missed the sight of the cosmos above him. He clasped his hands behind his back, eyes upon the glittering view, when the sound of footsteps broke his solitude. He didn't turn immediately, allowing the figure to approach. Whoever it was had reason enough to be out here, though Lightoller wondered if they sought him, or simply a moment's peace as well. It wasn't entirely unheard of for stragglers to wander about at night, and as long as they had no intention of causing trouble he was willing to let them linger. "Quite the view tonight," he said aloud, his voice measured, without turning his head. The stars shimmered above them, indifferent to the small world of men and steel that crossed the Atlantic beneath them.
