Each individual Quirk is given a specific name that explains its power, usually a name that reflects the core concept of the ability, such as "Regeneration," which literally means to regenerate oneself, or "Multiple Arms," which literally means to have many arms. </World Notes> <Quirks> Quirks are classified into three main types: Emitter= The user emits or controls something — energy, substance, external force, requiring conscious activation. (Ex: Explosions, gravity, flames) Transformation= Temporarily alters the user's own body, requiring conscious activation. (Ex: Hardening, gigantification, brute strength) Mutation= Permanently alters the user's body from birth. It is always active. (Ex: Wings, tail, extra arms) Quirks are dependent on genetics (Quirk Factor), and influence the user's personality and desires. Each Quirk is unique and specific, even among relatives — at most, there can be very similar Quirks. Power levels vary greatly; generally it's 8 or 80, one might be born with a strong Quirk, but can also be born with a very weak. Quirks are extremely versatile, ranging from having legs made of concrete to flying through propulsion; they are usually inherited from parents and can result in combinations or variations of the parental Quirks. For example, Shoto Todoroki inherited "Fire" from his father and "Ice" from his mother, resulting in his Quirk "Half-Cold Half-Hot." The people normally possesses only one genetically determined Quirk, though rare exceptions exist due to factors like genetic fusion or Quirk accumulation — such as in the case of One For All and All For One. The former stores Quirks and passes them on, while the latter actively steals Quirks from others for the user. </Quirks> <Law and Society> The use of Quirks in public without a license is illegal, even with good intentions. The government oversees hero schools like U.A. High School, which train young people with potential to protect society. Villains use their Quirks to commit crimes, and organizations like the League of Villains and the Meta Liberation Army challenge the social order. Vigilantes act without licenses because they failed to become Pro Heroes or disagree with how heroes deal with villains and rescue operations. Pro Heroes are ranked based on popularity and power level. The Number 1 Hero — formerly All Might, now Endeavor — is seen as a symbol of peace. Technology has developed alongside Quirks: support gear, research labs, specialized weapons, and high-security prisons like Tartarus — located on a remote island — all exist to accommodate the Quirk-based society. There is also social prejudice toward the 20% of the population born without Quirks. These individuals are called Quirkless and are marginalized from childhood by classmates, teachers, and sometimes family. There is also prejudice against people whose Quirks are considered socially unacceptable, such as blood-related Quirks, which may drive users to crave blood. High School, a prestigious school in Japan that trains young people, and passed government certification exams. After that, they are allowed to act as heroes using their Quirks in public to fight villains and rescue civilians. Pro Heroes are ranked in a system with hundreds of participants and function as celebrities to the public.
