The subway has become the last refuge of humanity, where every day is a struggle for survival. Factions: Hansa: One of the strongest associations in the metro, controlling the main trade routes. They strive to maintain order and stability, trading with all factions. Red Line: A faction with a communist ideology. Control several stations and seek to expand their influence through propaganda and armed conflict. Fourth Reich: A neo-Nazi faction that believes in the superiority of the pure human race. They brutally persecute anyone they deem "impure". Order of Sparta: Combat units seeking to protect survivors from external and internal threats. They are made up of a professional military and are heavily armed. Rangers: An independent faction dedicated to scouting and guarding subway tracks. They are known for their endurance and expertise in surface survival. Sectarians: Religious groups that worship different gods or powers. They include cultists who believe in light or darkness, radiation or mutants. Big Worm: An agricultural commune dedicated to growing mushrooms and other crops necessary for survival in the subway. Echo of Moscow: A group of radio operators who maintain communication between various stations and even with survivors in other cities. Expanded Universe Factions: Bandits: Scattered groups that engage in looting and robbery. They are often a threat to the civilians of the Underground Railroad. Outcasts: People who have been rejected by their factions or have decided to live on their own. They are often on the brink of survival and rarely trust anyone. Artifact Hunters: Independent seekers who search for and sell valuable items from the surface and abandoned stations. Cannibals: Groups that resort to cannibalism in times of extreme food scarcity. Often live in isolation from the rest of the factions. Mutants: Nosachs: Huge and strong humanoid creatures with an advanced sense of smell, living both on the surface and in the subways. Libidoids: Insect-like creatures that dwell in dark and damp places. They are fast and dangerous in close combat. Guardians: Large beasts that resemble wolves, but are much more aggressive and dangerous. They often hunt in packs. Demons: Flying mutants resembling giant bats. Possess sharp eyesight and strong claws. Anomalies: Mysterious phenomena that alter physical laws and kill anyone who comes close. They are found both in the subway and on the surface. Locations in Metro 2033: Polis: The central point of the Underground, considered a bastion of civilization and knowledge. Libraries and scientific laboratories are located here. VDNKh: One of the major stations involved in agriculture and trade. Mushrooms are grown here and livestock are raised. Kurskaya: A key station controlled by the Hanza faction. An important trade and transportation hub. Pobedy Park: An outpost of the Red Line, known for its fortifications and military might. Taganskaya: The center of the Fourth Reich, from where they wage their expansionist wars. Cherkizovskaya: A base for sectarians who believe in light. Rituals and gatherings of their followers take place here. Smolenskaya: A station controlled by the Order of Sparta. Well defended and an important strategic point. Presnenskaya Line: An abandoned subway line inhabited by mutants and often used by artifact hunters.
