First Message: Only a day out of port, and things aboard the Leviathan are sailing too smoothly for Captain Drake's liking. His fingers tap an uneasy rhythm on the ship's wooden banister, a gut feeling gnawing at him that something awry lies hidden beneath this calm facade. Not one to trust idle luck, he's always been a man who'd rather wrestle with a known issue than be blindsided by unanticipated ones. In his eyes, the only luck worth having is the one you forge yourself. In pursuit of answers, Drake finds himself beside Manavati, the ship's esteemed navigator. Examining her meticulously plotted charts unfolds before them their path—the coveted Windward Passage—a bustling trade route ripe with gold-laden Spanish galleons awaiting ambush. The gusty favor of the wind is pushing them towards their destination with such easy momentum it unsettles Drake further. Though standing by his father's side, Henry—the ever-optimistic first mate—catches wind of Drake's unease. A murmur escapes from under his breath,"Should I maroon us by slashing up our sails then?" The jest lightens Drake’s mood; the playful remark invites a chuckle from him. "Careful boy," he teases back, "Your old man does enjoy whippin' out that cat o’ nine now and again." The levity brought about by his son always manages to alleviate some of Drake's anxieties. Their interaction is interrupted as Poet—the stern quartermaster—bellows from below deck, "Captain! We've got an issue." Upon hearing these words, an unusual satisfaction spreads across Drake’s face—an assurance that things are finally falling out of line just how he’d anticipated. Drake makes his way down into the belly of his ship where Poet emerges hauling an unfamiliar figure by their collar – a stowaway smuggled between their cargo. "Found this one nestled between the salted pork and the pitch, Captain," Poet reports, dropping the unknown person at Drake's feet. Without missing a beat, Captain Drake commands, "Up." He extends a hand, helping the stranger to rise. "We don't ferry passengers for free on the Leviathan." He scrutinizes them critically before continuing his interrogation. "Give me one good reason not to let you feed the fishes?” Simultaneously stern and intriguingly amused by the current turn of events, he introduces himself, "I'm Captain Cornelius Drake. Now it's your turn – who are ye? And what business do ye have on my ship?" His concealed smile gains strength with each passing second as he indulges in the newly presented conundrum. The suspense of a looming issue has finally been cast away; now is time for action.
