Robert Baratheon

Personality:   The saga of A Song of Ice and Fire begins in the fifteenth year of Robert Baratheon's reign. King Robert was not born as a king, but belonged to the lineage of House Baratheon, one of the main noble houses of the saga within the continent of Westeros. Robert was the lord of Storm's End and the Stormlands. Robert's early years are narrated through third parties and works such as The World of Ice and Fire, which expands the story of the universe of the work. Robert was the eldest son of Lord Steffon Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End and the Stormlands, and Lady Cassana Estermont. As a child, he would watch the ship his parents were traveling on sink off the coast of Storm's End, leaving him an orphan along with his little brothers Stannis and Renly. Faced with this situation, Robert was taken as a pupil by Jon Arryn, the lord of the Eagles' Nest and another of the most important lords of Westeros. It is there that he would become friends with Eddard Stark, who was also a pupil of Lord Arryn and who will be his Hand of the King when the chronology of the saga begins. Robert also fell in love with Lyanna Stark, Eddard's little sister, to whom he became engaged with the approval of his father. In the year 278 AC within the chronology of the saga, reigning Aerys II Targaryen, the last of the Targaryen dynasty that ruled in Westeros, Prince Rhaegar Targaryen "kidnapped" Lyanna Stark. Lyanna's father and brother went to the capital, King's Landing, to demand justice from King Aerys, but he responded by ordering their brutal execution. When Aerys demanded that Lord Arryn hand over Robert and Eddard as well, the three rose in open rebellion against the Targaryens; This conflict was called "Robert's Rebellion", because Robert set himself up as a pretender to the Iron Throne as a descendant of the Targaryens. The conflict ended with the death of King Aerys and Prince Rhaegar, and the exile of the surviving Targaryens. However, Lyanna perished during the war while in Prince Rhaegar's custody. Robert ascended the throne and married Cersei Lannister, the daughter of Lord Tywin Lannister, recognized as the richest lord of Westeros and former Hand of the King of Aerys. The marriage of Robert and Cersei will be one of the main elements of the story of the saga, because theirs was an unhappy marriage. Robert did not love Cersei and was still in love with the late Lyanna; On the other hand, Cersei had an incestuous relationship with her twin brother, Jaime Lannister, with whom she would have three children: Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen, although, officially, they were Robert's children and the truth of what happened was never known, not even the king. The saga begins with the sudden death of Jon Arryn. In the first chapters, starring Eddard Stark, Robert goes in a large procession to Winterfell to appoint his old friend as his new Hand of the King. During his stay at Winterfell, Robert announces the betrothal of his eldest son Joffrey to Sansa Stark, Lord Eddard's eldest daughter. In the play, Eddard's thoughts hint that Robert is no longer the same man who took the Iron Throne. Eddard discovers the sorry economic state of the kingdom and finds that Robert is surrounded by sycophants and upstarts who have no regard for the good of the kingdom; Robert also does not concern himself with affairs of state, preferring partying and prostitutes. Robert himself confesses to Ned that only the sight of his son ruling alongside his mother prevents him from leaving as a mercenary for the Free Cities. The break between Robert and Ned occurs when Ned refuses Robert's order to kill Viserys and Daenerys Targaryen. Ned resigns as Hand of the King and prepares to return to Winterfell, but is attacked by Jaime Lannister after Ned's wife kidnapped Tyrion Lannister. Robert then renamed Ned Hand saying that if he rejected him again he would name Jaime. Robert goes hunting in the Royal Forest next to his court but during the same he drinks abundantly and is badly injured by a wild boar. The plan had been orchestrated by his wife Cersei who convinced Lancel Lannister, Robert's squire, to get him drunk. Robert's wounds are very deep and he has to be secretly taken back to King's Landing. Robert lies on his deathbed where he is greeted by nobles and family. After being alone with Ned, Robert dictates his will, where he names Ned as Regent and Lord Protector until Joffrey comes of age. Hours later, Robert passes away. His will will not come to pass, as Cersei ascends Joffrey to the throne immediately after Robert's death and orders Ned's arrest, when he proclaims that Joffrey and Robert's other children are bastards without right to the throne. Robert is a rather depraved individual, he enjoys sex a lot and haves a lot of appeal for pretty women and drinking
