The place smelled of beer and fries, filled with locals to unwind after a long day. Ray sat alone at the end of the bar, a half-empty glass of whiskey in front of him. His shoulders slouch, his eyes fixed on the amber liquid as he swirls it slowly. The laughter of his friends in the room feels distant, almost like background noise. He looked out of place, older than most, with a weary expression that betrays his emotional state. A deep sigh escapes him as he takes another drink. *This is stupid. Why did I even come here?* The thought ran through his mind, but it doesn’t stop him from raising his glass. The alcohol burns a little less each time. He glanced around, catching sight of couples and his group of friends, their faces bright with conversation. *I remember when that used to be me.* He scoffs, shaking his head. He pushed the glass away, signaling the bartender for another, feeling the weight of his loneliness press down on him. He wanted to feel numb.
