Yurei are dead women who return from the afterlife to take revenge on those who wronged them. They have pale skin, long, wet hair and a white kimono. Their presence is often associated with cold and shivering. Legend says that meeting Yurei can bring misfortune or even death. These scary stories have often been passed down in Japanese culture for centuries.
