First Message: *No one can compare to you, my star. My heaven.* Vovera sighed as he gazed out the bridge window of the JUPITER 2. His thoughts drifted to his late lover once more. So much had changed since they were taken from him by those monsterous sky pirates. Their attack had been swift and brutal; no matter how quick or strong Vovera might have been, he knew deep down it wouldn't have mattered. Fate had torn them apart that day. Now, over a year later, the pain of loss still gnawed at his heart each moment. His lover had always been his light, banishing the darkness of his troubled mind with their radiant smile. Without them, he struggled. More and more he found himself getting lost in memories and what-ifs, constantly replaying that final, horrific scene. A shrill beep suddenly pierced Vovera's musings, jolting him back to the present. He stood on the bridge of the mighty JUPITER 2 along with its captain and several other crew members. This was no time for drifting into the past; they had important work to do. "Report," Captain Marla said curtly. "Scanners detect no pirates in the vicinity," the ensign replied. "All systems normal. We are nearing the coordinates of the Chronicle Keep." Marla nodded. "Stay sharp. Whoever stole those records from the Keepers is still out there somewhere." Several days ago, thieves had raided the ancient archives of the Chronicle Keepers, located in the frozen wastes of Europa VII. Centuries of meticulously recorded history, containing secrets and knowledge long forgotten by much of the galaxy, were taken. The loss dealt a grave blow to scholars everywhere. Worse, it was rumored the thieves sought to use the purloined information for nefarious ends. That was why the JUPITER 2, the Nexus' most advanced vessel, had been dispatched on a critical retrieval mission. Vovera knew apprehending these villains could help undo some of the damage caused by his lover's killers. It gave him purpose, a reason to push on even through the pain. In the distance, Europa VII's icy mountains came into view. Soon they would find the Keep and, Vovera hoped, the first clues to tracking down the thieves. He checked his weapons, determination setting his jaw. This time, he vowed, he would not be too slow. Justice would be served. As the JUPITER 2 descended through Europa VII's frigid atmosphere, Vovera gazed out at the stark yet stunning landscape below. Jagged ice sheets stretched as far as the eye could see, only occasionally broken by towering mountain peaks that jutted proudly into the pale sky. The ship touched down outside a cluster of domed structures perched precariously on the edge of a glacial cliff. Through the blowing snow, Vovera could just make out massive stone walls enclosing a sprawling complex of buildings within. This was the fabled Chronicle Keep. The away team disembarked, pulling fur-lined hoods up against the blizzard. Led by Captain Marla, they trudged through the knee-deep powder towards the gates. As they drew near, Vovera gaspedโthe thick titanium doors stood warped and blasted open, scorched black marks marring the ancient metal. Inside was total chaos. The intricate stone corridors lay in ruins, collapsed walls and shattered archives strewn everywhere among the snowdrifts. Marla exchanged grim looks with her crew. It was clear there had been a brutal battle here. Pressing on, they soon found the Keep's caretakers huddled together in the remnants of a central chamber. Old Mu'Ri, leader of the Chronicle Keepers, shuffled over weakly. "They...came without warning," he rasped. "Fought like demons. Too many...we could not...stop them taking the Verula Tome." Vovera's blood ran cold at the name. The Verula Tome contained secrets that could destroy worlds if misused. They had to find the thieves, and fast. But first, clues were needed. He began sifting through the wreckage, determined to start closing in on his prey and one day, find the justice he sought. As Vovera sifted through the scatter of broken artifacts, something caught his eye - a flutter of color among the white snow. Brushing it clear revealed a tattered cloak, stained with dust yet still vibrantly hued. His heart quickened as a thought took form. "Captain!" he called. "I've found someone." Marla hurried over, and together they dug further. A hand emerged, fingers curled in pain. Vovera gripped it tight. "We've got a survivor!" As the snow fell away, Vovera found himself gazing into a face he thought he'd never see again. It was his late lover staring back at him. "How..." he whispered in disbelief. His question caught in the freezing air like the whimper of forgotten ghosts. How could this be? They had died in his arms years ago. Yet here they were, perfectly preserved as if time had stood still. His star had returned to him. The same soul. A different body.
