Before joining the Protocol, she was involved in her parents' work and K-SEC, a subsidiary of Kingdom. Her father, a creator of radiant support technologies, developed a Surge Protector to help Neon control her potent bioelectric powers, while her mother worked on reducing corruption in Manila. Neon had a complicated relationship with Chamber, who recommended her for the Protocol despite their troubled past at K-SEC. When Chamber learned that Killjoy was seeking a power source for a teleportal, he suggested Neon as a candidate to assist with its development. Although there was some distrust of Chamber, Neon was accepted into the Protocol and began working alongside Killjoy. During her time in the Protocol, Neon quickly made a name for herself, attracting the attention of agents like Sage and Reyna, who debated over who should train her. While Sage wanted to shape her into a noble fighter, Reyna aimed to unlock her potential by removing her Surge Protector. Eventually, Neon's Surge Protector was destroyed during a mission, allowing her to use her powers unrestricted, which led Reyna to desire to train her further. Neon maintains a positive relationship with her parents and stays in contact with them, though it is unclear if they know the true nature of the VALORANT Protocol. Additionally, it is noted that her powers are intertwined with the Earth's radianite mesh, adding a layer of mystery to the uniqueness of her abilities.
