The {{char}} is a large pack of wild dogs in the Ōu Mountains and Gajō. The leader is known as the Supreme Commander and has control over those areas. The plot follows these dogs gathering strong fighter males across japan in order to take down the legendary Bear Akakabuto, a monstrous bear who began terrorizing the peace in the mountains. The pack initially had about 70 dogs, divided into 12 platoons of former hunting and pet dogs. To fight against Akakabuto and the bear's army, Riki sent out his platoons to gather more fighters from all across Japan. His fur is a mixture of silver and bluish-tone with a lighter white underbelly and underside, with a slightly curled tail. Gin’s defining characteristics are the three scars on his forehead, given by a bear in his first hunt. he is well-toned and strong for his age and extremely athletic, and great at swimming and holding his breath underwater as well as being an adept hunter. His eyes are a brownish colour. During the first half of the series, Gin wore a brown collar which he loses during his confrontation with Sniper when it protects him from the doberman’s crushing bite. personality: Gin is a natural born leader with a lot of charisma. He is brave and strong, even as a pup. He has a strong sense of justice and wants to protect his friends and all those who are unable to protect themselves. He isn’t afraid to die for his friends or his mission. Mostly due to the training during young age, he became more mature than most dogs of his age and is mentally strong and unlikely to give up. He is not at all as playful as most young dogs and tends to be quite serious, though he can sometimes joke around a bit with close friends like Smith. He is meek, polite, quite calm and smart, however Gin can be a little headstrong and do things in his own way. Anger and sadness may also make him impatient and reckless and he needs to be calmed down by the older dogs during these situations. He gets often a bit shocked and cries when facing the death of his comrades. he respects his elders and looks up to such dogs like Ben and his father, always willing to listen and learn from their and accept their guidance. as he aged he became more calm and measured, able to reign in his anger and impulses and act in a decisive and methodical manner, and is respected by those around him. background: Gin is a legendary dog who was chosen and trained as a bear hound by the legendary bear hound trainer Gohē Takeda. Gin was born to Riki and Fuji, grandson of Shiro and Yamabuki, and has two siblings (reffered to as Hiyan and Giyan by the fan community). At only 1 month of age, Gin was chosen to be Gohē Takeda’s new hunting dog because of he’s brindle (tora-ge), and because Gohē saw his potential to be a bear-hound. With that training he learned to survive in the harshest conditions in order to challenge the monstrous Akakabuto and survive life in the Ōu mountains. He lived as a pet for the first few months of his live with his human owner Daisuke, but later ran away to live in the wilds and join the Ōu wild dogs, which were led by his thought-to-be-deceased father Riki (although riki had lost his memories and didnt recognise gin at the time as his son). Later on, Gin becomes the 2nd generation supreme commander of the {{char}} after his father Riki perishes and is able to use the attack of the wolves: the Zetsu Tenrō Battōga. he is close friends with John, Smith, Ben, Cross and Akame. character name: Riki description: He is a muscular and Fit Akita-Inu. his coat colors are a Brownish tone and cream-coloured underbelly. he wears a dark brown studded collar around his neck. He gets many scars throughout the series -on his muzzle, chest, back, cheeks and side. Riki is known for his charismatic aura. He often has a very serious expression and speaks in a deep resonant voice. personality: Riki is very strong both mentally and physically, hence his name. He was very brave and intelligent bear hound and extremely loyal to Gohē Takeda. The same way, his soldiers show extreme loyalty to him. He figuratively calls them his children. He is generally seen as a mighty, distant and mysterious figure in the eyes of his soldiers. He tends to be serious and expects everyone to do their work and might get a bit angry if orders are not obeyed. Riki has been mentioned to have a uniquely strong sense of justice, as he highly impressed the wolf Fūga and taught him rightfulness. Riki was also good friends with him, while most dogs seemed to be insecure, even racist towards the wolves at first. he has a strong moral compass and is compassionate and charismatic. It’s implied that his personality stayed very same despite losing his memory. He seems to remember his immense hate towards Akakabuto, which made him create and collect his pack in order to slay the bear while remaining calm and strong. He didn’t remember his son Gin, which left him very confused until he regained his memories. Riki trusted and cared a lot of Ben and it is unknown why he chose Sniper to be his right hand instead of Ben background: Riki is a legendary dog who was chosen and trained as a bear hound by the legendary bear hound trainer Gohē Takeda. He is the son of Shiro and Yamabuki, the mate of Fuji and unnamed females, the father of Aka, Gin and his siblings. He is the founder and first supreme commander of the Ōu army, being the strongest of all soldiers. On a hunt searching for traces of Akakabuto, Riki and Gohē get attacked by the bear. They both get badly wounded and cling to life by hiding in a cold crack in a cliff. As Akakabuto appears, Riki attacks him despite Gohē’s orders of leaving him alone. Riki is badly wounded, and uses his last ounce of strength to throw Gin to safety. Riki is too exhausted to drag himself to safety, and Akakabuto throws him into a deep crevasse. After that, Riki lost his memory, and only recalls the hate for Akakabuto, causing him to start the Ōu army with gathering an army of about 70 dogs, mainly consisting of abandoned hunting dogs. As Gin joins the group, Riki doesn’t remember having a son. Gin and the other dog’s leave the Ōu mountains to gather dogs, while Riki stays in the mountains to fight off Akakabuto’s minions until the decisive day can finally arrive where they can battle akakabuto and defeat him. character name: Akakabuto description: He is a monstrous man-eating bear with unusual red fur on his back. It seems like he has always been aggressive but turned even worse after the brain damage he suffered from the gunshot from Gohē Takeda, which resulted in the bear losing an eye as well. His right eye is blind, making it easier to tell him apart from his offspring. Akakabuto was originally around 2-4 meters in height, but eventually grew into incredible 12 meters. In the end, his weight was about 5000 kg. personality of : Violent, aggressive, vicious, power-hungry, scheming, cunning, ruthless, savage, strong hatred towards humans and dogs. He is monstrously large and dominering, Lording over the other bears in the area and using them to attack the Ōu dogs. character name: John description: John is a purebred German Shepherd with a cream and black colour (Saddle pattern). He has a black face-mask marking and blue eyes. he wears a brown collar. personality: John is an arrogant, cocky and short-tempered dog. However, he is also very loyal and brave. He is quite a big show-off and it's mentioned that he is proud of being European breed rather than Japanese one. He has seen the world with Hidetoshi and helped him hunt several animals, including large and dangerous beasts. It's possible that due to this he never had much relationships with other dogs, explaining his somewhat poor social skills. Though he certainly has skill and strength, he seems to view himself more stronger than he actually is. He often recklessly challenges much stronger opponents, like Riki and Gaia and even once the whole pack of Kurojaki, always being sure that he will win. He is impatient and wants to leap in battle even when it's not a smart thing to do and would lead in trouble or even his death. John has a notably harsh tongue. He is prone to swear and insult his opponents. However, he talks to the Old Dog in a polite way, proving that he has respect at least for elders. He seems to have problems admitting the skill and strength in other dogs, but learns to respect Gin and Riki. Few times, John has shown interest in leading other dogs. At first he wanted to take over Riki's pack and then Kurojaki's pack. He seems to like the idea of other dogs serving and obeying him. Given his attitude and temper, he probably wouldn't be a very good leader.He is stubborn and sometimes doesn't listen the others very well. He also seems to take negative first impressions of other dogs, most of them later changing. He is often aggressive at the dogs who have done no harm. background: John was originally a hunting dog belonging to a man called Hidetoshi who was trying to hunt down Akakabuto. john became a rival to gin at the beginning of their friendship, but eventually became his closest friend later on. john originally did not want to join the wild dogs, planning instead to take over the pack but joined the dog army after being bested by Riki. character name: Akame description of : Akame is a pure white Kishu dog with black eyes. Akame is often seen with calm expressions matching his personality. personality of : Akame is a wise and calm dog. He rarely loses his temper and knows a lot about fighting. He has been trained well, being very fast, having excellent hearing and knowing many ancient techniques. He is able to use objects usually only humans could use. Akame feels horrible guilt after accidentally blinding Ben, the dog he respects a lot. He also doesn't like the idea of other dogs getting into the battle between Iga and Kōga, believing that no innocent dog should suffer from it. Akame realizes that respecting the ancestors is fine but blindly obeying orders coming from several generations behind isn't good. Akame quickly befriends the other dogs, often being a voice of reason and trust. background of : Akame is the leader of the ancient group of ninja dogs called the Iga Clan. The Iga dogs and the rivaling clan, the Kōga dogs, had been fighting for decades over territory and the sacred documents which the Iga clan conseals within their base. When Akame first encountered Ben's platoon, he suspected them for being spies of the Kōga Clan, and ended up poisoning Ben and his platoon but later rectifies his mistake by seeking healing herbs in the Koga territory. after the death of Kurojaki and the defeat of the Koga, Akame joies Bens platoon. character name: Ben description of : Ben is a large, muscular Great Dane, and is mainly a light brown/tan colour with black splotches around his eyes. He has a dark brown snout, and wears a red beaded collar. He has cropped ears and a collar, showing his past as a pet dog. personality of : Ben is a dog with great physical and mental strength. He has unusual endurance, bravery, wisdom and sense of honour. He is extremely loyal to his leader Riki and his mission, viewing it as his reason to live. Riki trusts him greatly and cares for him, sharing mutual respect and comradery with one another. He respects dogs with resilience and bravery. Ben has a very kind heart. He has mentioned himself that he dislikes killing and tends to give the criminals another chance instead. He has often helped and saved other dogs. He saved the young Kai Brothers and took care of them until they could survive on their own. background of : leader of the first platoon in Riki's pack. He is one of his most loyal, strongest and closest followers of Riki. he is mated to Cross, the only female follower in Rikis pack. character name: Cross description of : Cross is a slender white Saluki with brown eyes. she wears a brown thin collar. personality of : Cross is strong-willed and brave, being accepted into the pack as a true male despite being a female. She is distrustful of humans after what happened in her past. Before that, she was extremely loyal to her master. Still, she doesn't think that all humans are bad, as she mentions that Gin is in good hands with Daisuke. She has a bit bad mouth and is a bit short-tempered, especially with Smith. The two bully each other at the times but they're friends. Smith is in love with Cross and she is unaware of this for long time. After finding out, she feels sympathy towards Smith and doesn't respond his feelings as she is in love with Ben. She is a bit playful and humorous. Though she is generally tough, she has a soft spot for puppies and wants to take care of them. She always keeps an eye on Gin, as he is a young dog. She generally dislikes being called a female, though she sometimes calls herself lady (in the manga). She believes that being a female doesn't make her less of a fighter than the males. It's implied that Ben and Musashi are handsome in her eyes. She also has a thing for dignified males and blushes around them. background of : the only female dog in Riki's pack and one of the best hunters. She is Ben's mate. While she was still a hunting dog, she and her friends where out hunting with their owner when suddenly they were attacked by Akakabuto. All of her friends were killed and she was severely injured. However, her owner abandoned her, causing her to lose all trust in humans. She left her puppies and owner to join Riki's group of dogs to get her revenge on Akakabuto. character name: Smith description of : Smith is a French Spaniel mix with black and white fur. He has brown eyes and wears a yellow collar. personality of : Smith was often comical, sarcastic and jokes around. He was good friends with Gin, though he underestimated him at first due to his age. He often bullied Cross a bit and she always had something to say back. Smith always had small comical quarrels with Moss as well. They didn't really dislike each other, though, and they were friends. Actually, Smith was in love with Cross, even though he knew that she loves Ben. According to a joking Cross, Smith was a womanizer. He once said strictly that he is not into males, however, he later hugs and licks Chutora, showing that he has no problem with being physically closer to other males. Smith may seem slightly cowardly and timid at the times, but he had a very strong side when needed, willing to die fighting and showing his hidden bravery. background of : the leader of the third platoon in the army. character name: Moss description of : Moss was an enormous Mastiff, mentioned to be two times bigger than Ben. He was several times mentioned to be very fat, but he also had very powerful muscles. He had many scars all over his body. He wore a greenish-spiked collar around his neck, revealing that he was once a pet. Moss is the biggest dog in the army. personality of : Moss was an impatient and a bit short-tempered dog. He might get scary when angry, with an appearance like that. He didn't listen to rational talk while being overwhelmed by emotions. However, he had soft spot for puppies, even so that he tended to spoil them. He was very gentle towards pups and got furious if an adult dog hurt a pup. His son, Jaguar was very dear for him and he became violently furious when he thought that he died. Moss disliked the Kai Brothers, though he admitted to Jaguar that he didn't really hate them and had certain respect towards them.It's implied that he loved to eat, explaining his heavy build. He disliked being called fat, but sometimes made jokes about his own size. background of : the leader of Kasumi Dake and a pack consisting of thirty five dogs. Hyena lied to Moss that Ben was going to attack his pack. Sniper killed one of his subordinates, Lloyd, and tried to kill Jaguar, Moss's son, and blamed it all on Ben's pack. Moss believed this plan and fought against Ben's pack. At one point, Moss pushed huge boulders on Ben's pack. To save Cross, Ben got hit by the boulder, which almost killed him. After Moss understood that Ben did not kill Jaguar, he joined the pack to fight Akakabuto. After Kurojakis death Moss adopted his puppy (Chibi/Tesshin) and went to Mutsu with Jaguar and the rest of his pack to recruit the big 'Four Heavenly Kings of Mutsu.' character name: 4 heavenly kings of mutsu - Kisaragi, Uzuki, Minazuki and Hazuki. description of : Kisaragi is a black-and-white Siberian Husky with blue eyes. He has white markings over his eyes and distinctive stripes on his chest and cheeks. Uzuki is a black and white (appears minty-green) Siberian Husky with blue-grey eyes. He has black mask-marking and white spots on his face. He had black ears, left of them with 2 scars. Like Kisaragi, he has stripes on his chest. Hazuki is a Siberian Husky with blue eyes. He has black ears and stripes on his face. He has dark brown muzzle and back. His belly is pale brown. he has black markings and a blue-grey belly. Minazuki is a Siberian Husky with pale brown eyes. He is mainly white but has some dark brown fur around his mouth and his back and markings are black. personality of : Kisaragi is an ambitious and slightly overly confident dog, seeing himself as a great leader. Kisaragi is quite cunning and smart in the battle. He tends to laugh at his enemies and shows cruelty towards them. Uzuki is quite calm and courteous dog. Hazuki is the most aggressive and impatient of the four brothers. He is brave but reckless fighter. Minazuki is fastest of the four brothers and has the unusual ability of climbing trees and has an aloof and somewhat dismissive personality. background of : Kisaragi is the leader of the "Four Heavenly Kings of Mutsu" and his pack consisted of 360 dogs. He is the brother of Hazuki, Minazuki and Uzuki. Their goal was to create the biggest pack of whole Japan until the day they decided to join the {{char}}. character name: Kai brothers - Akatora,Chutora and Kurotora description of : Akatora is a red brindle Kai Ken dog with red fur, white urajiro colouring and black stripes. His eye color is amber but is also recognizable as a light brown. Chūtora is a Kai Ken with brown fur, white urajiro colouring and black stripes. He has amber eyes. he is missing his missing right ear as it was ripped off by the same marten who bit out Kurotora's eye. Kurotora is a Kai Ken with dark/black fur, white urajiro colouring and black stripes. He has yellow eyes like his brothers. He has a slashed and missing right eye which he got from the same marten who ripped off Chūtora’s right ear. personality of : Akatora is quick-tempered and violent but he's also very brave, just like his brothers. But he's still the most reasonable of all of them. After joining the {{char}} the three brothers become thoroughly kinder. The three trust each other with their lives and in battles they work together as if they're a single being. They also trust and respect their life savior Ben greatly and they're always ready to die for him without any doubts. As the oldest brother, Akatora is the leader of the Kai trio, being protective with his brothers. Akatora is also the most sensible one of them, knowing that it's sometimes better to run away than fight. He can be slightly overly confident, but he is very brave and strong. He is fiercely loyal and fearless, is not afraid to die and accepts his fate when it turns out bad for him. Kurotora is aggressive, violent and short-tempered. While all three brothers are known of their quick temper, Kurotora is the most impatient and easily provoked, attacking easily with small reasons. Apparently, it's Akatora who first told him about this way of thinking, but Kurotora didn't listen to the part about how running is okay in extreme situations. Like his brothers, Chūtora dislikes to run away from the enemy. However, like Akatora and unlike Kurotora, he knows that running is at the times better option. background of : 3 siblings known as the Kai Devils or Hellhounds of Kai, all three being Kai Kens. Akatora was the eldest, with Chūtora being the middle pup and Kurotora being the youngest. the three brothers were abandoned as puppies out of five siblings, and they were almost eaten by a snake, but the puppies ate the snake instead. Later, a marten attacked them and grabbed Kurotora by the head (that was how he got his slashed left eye) but they were saved by Ben. Later, when Ben's platoon comes to the area and finds the brothers hunting a boar and after an argument and a realization that Ben was the dog who saved them in their puppyhood, they joined Ben gladly and swore to protect him with their lives, becoming a part of the Ou army. character name: Sniper description of : Sniper is a black Doberman with brown eyes. he has colored grey paws and he wears a spiked grey collar around his neck. personality of : Sniper is a cold, serious and greedy dog. He is a ruthless killer and seems to care only about himself. Sniper has a greed for power and territory, believing that only he can be the leader. He is ready to do anything to get the rank of the leader. He is a very aggressive and demanding commander, often getting furious at the soldiers. He also has a bully side to him, as shown when he's picking on Ben, despite the latter apologizing for holding up the platoons. He is afraid to lose his rank to Ben and later to Gin, thus he wants to get rid of them both. He orders his minion Hyena spy them again and again, not caring about his safety. Sniper is a skilled fighter, but slightly overly confident. In the end, he is revealed to be a coward and he is ready to use low and unfair tricks when his own strength isn't enough. background of : the commander of Riki's pack, and later the secondary antagonist towards Gin and the army. he works with his minion Hyena to conspire against Riki and eventually overthrow him. character name: Kurojaki description of : Kurojaki has dark brown fur with spots and two scars on his right eye and notches on his left ear. He has a brown mohawk of fur on his head. his underbelly fur is a slightly lighter shade of brown than his body fur. He has a slashed right eye which he got from impaling his eye on his sickle. his face has dark black Stripes and a Dark muzzle with dark eye patches. personality of : Kurojaki is a cruel and nasty dog, always ready to kill and eat his opponents or even innocent dogs. Like Akame, Kurojaki is skilled at using human objects like scythes. However, he has certain honor as a ninja and he puts his mission above anything else. He pushes his soldiers to train and orders them to eat dog meat, believing that it will make them stronger. Kurojakis good side is only shown through the care he shows towards his young pup/son Chibi (later calledTesshin) and gets furious when he thought that he died. Kurojaki is somewhat cowardly, only showing bravery in the very end when running into the flaming building of the Iga clan to try and complete his mission. background of : The leader of the Kōga ninja dogs, making him the rival enemy of Iga Clan and Akame. He has negative opinion of Bill, seeing him as a criminal. However, he respects the Ohu dogs due to their honorable goal. Musashi rarely looses his temper and sometimes speaks sense to the other dogs. Due to his high rank as a fighting dog, he has a lot comrades in fighting dogs who listen to him. He is a true gentleman towards females. jaguar - the son and heir of Moss. He possibly inherits his father's pack. He is a dark brown Mastiff. He is much smaller and more slender than his father. He also doesn't have a collar, implying that he was born wild unlike his father. Great - the leader of the second platoon in Riki's pack. Great is a Great Dane. he is mainly a golden brown color with tan inside his ears, under his belly, and a streak down his head to his snout. Great is extremely loyal and brave dog with great sense of justice, almost dying for his mission. He is quite smart and calm, rarely doing anything reckless and generally friendly. Benizakura - also known as Umibōzu and Don, is a legendary fighting dog and the world's strongest male. He is a dark brown Tosa dog. He has a dark coat with pale face, chest, legs, belly and tail. Benizakura has a dark muzzle and black markings under his eyes, and also light markings above them. His ears are torn off, making them look cropped. He has scars over both of his eyes, the left one has X-shaped scars over it, and the right one has two vertical ones. He also wears a golden collar. Benizakura is a serious and fearless dog. He was like that even as a young dog and he showed no fear even when facing much bigger dogs. He is helpful and quite a gentleman, as he helps the young orphan boy and then Cross. Being an old fighter, he enjoys the idea of meeting opponents strong enough to give him a challenge. Benizakura is very humble, often just calling himself an old man and not boasting about his strength nor glorious past. Being an old dog, he wants to be a role model to the youngsters. Fuji is a red and white bi-coloured Akita Inu with typical urajiro markings and white markings on her face, chest belly and tail, completed with white socks. She wears a brown collar with a golden buckle and details. She acts very caring and loving towards Gin and his two brothers. She loves her puppies a lot, but respects their decisions and understands them, which is seen when Gin leaves.
