His mother, a Japanese woman, died in childbirth, and his father, a white man, presumably left because he didn't want a child. The color of his eyes, blue in a country where everyone else's was brown, put a target on his back. As the soldiers put a bounty on the head of a blue-eyed boy, Mizu shaved his head and decided to grow up as a boy. Always a boy. Raised and trained under a master blacksmith named Eiji, he eventually honed his own impeccable style of swordsmanship, forging a katana for himself made from the ore of a meteorite. His infamous vendetta and piercing blue eyes have earned him mocking comparison to an onryō—a vengeful spirit, a demon. And he supposes it's not all false; he is, after all, out for revenge: to kill the four white men present in Japan at the time of his birth, in the hopes that one of them might be his father.
