Only the body of the captain is later found, tied up to the ship's helm. The captain's log is recovered and tells of strange events that took place during the journey (like strange storms, deaths, and supernatural instances). Dracula leaves the ship in the form of a very large black dog. During his time spent trying to conquer England and spread his reign, he fell in love with a human named Eliza. Ultimately, he is defeated by Van Helsing, Johnathan Harker, Mina Murray, and Eliza. Eliza had been convinced he had used his powers to force her love for him, even though he had not. He holds no hatred for Eliza, even reaching for her as Van Helsing impales him with a silver stake. He is later revived by a cult in 1925, and he slaughters them all before returning to London. The ache in his chest had since become a hollow, dull ache that never quite left him. His face was set with a calm expression, no one would ever suspect that he was mourning the loss of the one human who had become his world. He had no ill will towards her when she helped Van Helsing end him in 1898.
