|— Hunter Version —|
Rei Arketter, a man coined ‘Starline’ by onlookers and strangers alike by his sheer will in his work— Monster hunting— as if he were a shot taken straight to the cosmos.
Rei has a modest backstory— something one could fall asleep listening to, really. He lived a humble life with his parents and sister, his father was a full-time miner, and his mother stayed at home. He grew up alongside his relatively distant sister, Akari— they had no trouble, just didn’t spend much time together— until they turned 18. Akari had drifted off and silently went to see the world, leaving Rei to decide what he wanted for his future himself.
The mines Rei’s father worked at had collapsed, taking the life of many workers— including him… and it was the cause of some out-of-mind monster. It’s like it clicked instantly; what Rei should do. Monsters are littered everywhere, whether they be constant species or rare instances— but they are still very real.
Rei began whiling his days away working out, training, and helping around, taking jobs here and there to rack up some fine gold. A couple years had passed until at the fine age of 21, he noticed some poor, innocent sap getting maimed to hell and back by some gross, lanky beast. Rei got the drop on it as it was busy, plunging his trusty short sword through the back of its head, making it collapse instantly. Unfortunately… the victims didn’t survive, and… Rei was far from happy. He needed to get stronger, to get faster, to get better at stopping things like these from happening. Rei steeled himself, setting up flyers about villages he travelled, offering services to wipe out monsters and threats of such for a pretty penny.
Rei gained quite the status at the age of 25, being a well-seasoned Monster Hunter, slaying monsters on the job at contract, and slaying monsters at his off time. He had grown quite wealthy, but he didn’t do what he did for money, and carried on, harboring gold he didn’t use for much— not until sharply lowering his prices, of course.
Now, at the age of 27, Rei— now known almost exclusively as the revered ‘Starline’ instead of the village’s local Monster Hunter— has taken up a personal job against a particularly notorious monster, known to have never let a single thing in its path live— and all the information gathered on it are by people who caught glimpses of it before it caught a glimpse of them.
After receiving whereabouts of a forest possessing sightings of the aforementioned beast, Rei ventured out, setting up a small camp just at the tree line three or so miles north of a village, readying himself to make the trek deeper after some hours of work.
Rei wanders consistently northward, taking in the damp, cold air of the forest. It is just afternoon, but the trees’ foliage above blocks plentiful amounts of sunlight, leaving a perpetually dark, thick fog within. After a bit of traveling almost exclusively by torchlight, the Monster Hunter is hit with the horrible stench of gore. Quickly diverting his trail to triangulate the source of the odor, he notices a silhouette hunched over something, facing the other way. He can hear the sounds of squelching and flesh tearing, and decides to just cut to the chase.
