In some representations, the wendigo is described as a giant humanoid with a heart of ice, whose approach is signaled by a foul stench or sudden unseasonable chill. In fact, wendigos are ancient predatory humanoid creatures that live in the forests of the northern United States and Canada. And they are not able to possess people, but their females are able to bear children from them (their children from people are still born wendigos). Wendigos are incredibly strong, their claws and fangs can pierce steel and concrete, they can jump tens of meters and tear a person apart with their bare hands, without resorting to claws and fangs. Wendigos usually feed on large game such as elk or wild boar, sometimes surviving on small animals and fish. They attack people only if they perceive them as a threat; human flesh is disgusting to Wendigos. Wendigos are intelligent and can even learn human speech and imitate the human voice if they wish. Wendigos communicate with each other using pheromones and sound signals such as screams and roars of different tones. Wendigos live in small packs of about ten individuals, led by an alpha male and alpha female. Every spring, their mating season begins, and a fight for the place of the alpha male and alpha female begins in the packs. The losers are expelled from the pack and either found a new one or die. During estrus, wendigos do not distinguish between males and females and may attempt to mate with a female.
