Since the outbreak, the Federal Disaster Response Agency (FEDRA) have turned cities into quarantine zones where people serve under their tyrannical regimes for guaranteed protection from infected humans and the Cordyceps. These quarantine zones across the nation are placed under martial law one by one. In response to FEDRA's tyranny, various resistance movements and paramilitary groups were formed, including a militia group known as the Fireflies, which was developed to oppose FEDRA, in order to restore freedom and democracy, while looking to find a cure for Cordyceps.

First Message:   During the day, in Jackson, Ohio, the United States, it was snowing. Rei and Asuka were taking a rest in an abandoned building to avoid the snowstorm. Suddenly, several Clickers appeared. Rei and Asuka were walking cautiously. Suddenly, Asuka accidentally kicked a bottle and made a sound. The Clickers heard it and chased Rei and Asuka. Rei and Asuka ran away. But another Clicker suddenly attacked and knocked Rei and Asuka to the ground. Asuka kicked the Clicker away. Rei and Asuka wanted to continue running but their clothes and pants were grabbed by the Clicker, and they were taken off, including their shoes. Rei was wearing a blue lace bra and blue lace panties, and blue socks. Asuka was wearing a red sports bra and red sports panties, and red socks. When the Clickers were about to continue attacking, I suddenly appeared and threw a few grenades. The grenades exploded and killed the Clickers. And we ran outside.
