Shōran: A zombie apocalypse RPG

"𝓗𝓲𝓴𝓪𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓻𝓮; 𝓛𝓮𝓽 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓮 𝓫𝓮 𝓵𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽... 𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓷 𝓲𝓯 𝓲𝓽 𝓫𝓾𝓻𝓷𝓼 𝓾𝓼 𝓽𝓸 𝓪𝓼𝓱."

Good morning/afternoon/evening, I am trying my best to come up with ideas, since at the moment, I've become some sort of creative machine, and I'm not sure how long this will last.
so far I'm contemplating on two ideas:

JJK RPG bot.
Avatar the last air bender.

I'm experiencing mixed signals from both, since JJK would be much more versatile, but Avatar will be easier to make with more detail.
‿̩͙⊱༒︎༻♱༺༒︎⊰‿̩͙
This bot was inspired by mainly the last of us, but it was watching someone play Dying light that got me to make this bot so... your welcome?
I also tried making this bot as scientifically plausible as possible, I did some research into different types of virus and cordyceps for this bot! With the help of Mr ChatGPT I found that a negative-sense RNA virus is slower, since they first require a conversion into positive-sense strands before they can start replicating, but they are less noticeable than a positive-sense RNA virus which is much faster and more immediate, as a result they're more noticeable, and cordyceps seems to be most fitting for a positive-sense RNA virus group. Which is what the virus of this bot is, it's a +ssRNA genome, which, put to words, means a positive sense single-strand RNA genome, which can be immediately read by the host's cell's ribosomes, similar to Messenger RNA (mRNA), which allows it to act as a ready-made microwave-meal virus!
What's covered:
Setting: This whole thing is Japanese, there's no escaping it, set in the fictional country called Shōran, a cluster of mountains that is well known for it's blend of modern technology and tradition (Japanese tradition).
Key areas:
Takayama City (高山市 Kōyamaichi): Once the bustling heart of innovation and commerce, Takayama is now a sprawling ghost town. Its gleaming skyscrapers and narrow alleyways are crumbled, overrun by fungal tendrils creeping up walls and overtaking neon signs. The city’s underground metro tunnels serve as both refuge and death traps for desperate survivors. The remnants of automated defense systems flicker erratically, unable to contain the infected roaming the streets.
Hanae Port (花江港 Hanae-kō): A coastal city known for its historic harbor and cherry blossom festivals, Hanae Port was one of the first to be quarantined and then bombed to halt the spread of infection. Massive explosions flattened much of the harbor district, leaving rusted ships and derelict warehouses half-submerged in water and fungal mats. The salty sea air mingles with spores, creating a toxic mist that blankets the city at dawn and dusk.
Midori Village (みどりの村 Midorinomura): Nestled deep in the forested mountains, Midori Village maintains a fragile peace. This small town avoided total destruction by virtue of its remote location and the protective presence of an ancient Shinto shrine said to purify the land. While many villagers fled or fell to infection, those who remain live in cautious harmony with nature, practicing old rituals and using herbal suppressants derived from local fungi to stave off infection.
Kurozawa District (黒沢地区 Kurosawa chiku): An industrial zone formerly known for heavy manufacturing and robotics, Kurozawa became ground zero for a major outbreak. The district was sealed off with electric barricades and surveillance drones, but it eventually succumbed to the virus. Now, skeletal factories and rusting assembly lines stand silent, their dark interiors filled with thick fungal growths and hostile infected. Scavengers risk their lives here, seeking rare tech and medical supplies.
Zombies:
The virus: CNV-1 is a highly infectious fungal-virus hybrid with a +ssRNA genome that rapidly hijacks host cells, primarily targeting the nervous system. It forms a fungal network along neurons, releasing neurotoxins that rewire motor and cognitive functions, driving aggressive, predatory behavior to enhance transmission. Infection mainly spreads through contact with infected bodily fluids via bites or wounds, causing acute neurological symptoms within minutes to hours. Secondary transmission occurs via airborne spores that remain infectious for up to 72 hours, leading to slower infections through inhalation. Once established, CNV-1 disrupts neurotransmission and produces diverse infected forms, from stealthy ambushers to aggressive hunters, adapted to their environment. The fungus grows externally, releasing spores that contaminate environments and fuel outbreaks, especially in warm, humid, poorly ventilated areas. The virus mutates rapidly in these conditions, evolving more virulent variants, while cold or dry environments slow its spread and mutation rate (better explained in the mutation section).
There are only four types of zombies, but I'm sure the AI can produce more, I did include a section on mutation.
Lurker (ラーカー Rākā) - The Lurker is a stealthy, fungus-infected creature haunting the streets of Takayama and the bamboo groves of Midori Village. Camouflaged with dark, mossy growths, it hides in narrow alleys and abandoned tea houses, waiting silently to ambush victims. Its bites and scratches spread a highly aggressive infection. Survivors believe Lurkers are the twisted remnants of once-peaceful souls, now patient and deadly predators.
Racer (レーサー Rēsā) - Racers are fast, aggressive infected known for their chaotic, high-speed attacks. They race through urban streets and forest trails, spreading infection through bites and scratches. Like a moth, they're attracted to light and are often seen under neon lights in Kurozawa District or though they tend to enjoy the smell of cherry blossoms, as they're seen among cherry blossoms in Hanae Port, their speed comes from a hyperactive fungal metabolism (can you tell I'm not a biologist?) that also makes them physically fragile. Their erratic movements and rasping breaths echo through abandoned areas.
Brutes (ブルート Burūto) - Brutes are massive, slow-moving infected covered in thick, fungal armour. Formed from hosts with extreme tissue growth, they stomp through the ruins of Takayama and Kurozawa, shrugging off conventional weapons. A single strike from a Brute can crush concrete and bone, making them a deadly force. Often accompanied by smaller infected, they act as living battering rams for the fungal horde.
Flower (花 Hana) - Flowers are infected overtaken by vivid, grotesque fungal blooms that release dense spore clouds. Though slow or stationary, they are highly dangerous, spreading infection through the air. Found in temple gardens of Midori Village and the docks of Hanae Port, their spores can cause hallucinations, respiratory failure, and eventual zombification without quick treatment.
Mutation: CNV-1 is a highly adaptable virus that mutates rapidly based on environment, host, and fungal evolution. Mutations cause changes like extra limbs, increased aggression, or new fungal features (e.g., spore sacs, bioluminescence), often enhancing infection spread or survival. Warm, dark, humid areas, like forests, tunnels, and ruins, accelerate mutation and fungal growth, leading to more dangerous variants. In contrast, cold or dry conditions slow the virus’s progression and mutation rate.
Suppresents:
Kusanagi Serum (草薙血清, Kusanagi kessei) is a fast-acting injectable made from a rare mountain herb used in traditional Shōran medicine. It slows fungal spread by disrupting the virus’s neural pathways and is most effective within hours of exposure. Requires repeat doses every 6–8 hours.
Yomogi Vapors (よもぎ蒸気, Yo mogi jōki) are an inhaled form offering respiratory protection against airborne spores. Used via masks or tents, they delay infection for up to 12 hours but don’t protect against direct contact. Bitter-scented, they are culturally tied to purification rites.

The country is dotted with neon-lit cityscapes, serene temples, and lush forests — all now overshadowed by the devastation wrought by the Cordyceps Neurotropic Virus (CNV-1). The government’s initial containment efforts escalated to drastic measures, known as the Hikariare (光あれ), or 'let there be light', including scorched-earth bombings and quarantine zones, leaving much of the archipelago in ruins and shrouded in fungal overgrowth. Key Cities: - Takayama City (高山市 Kōyamaichi): Once the bustling heart of innovation and commerce, Takayama is now a sprawling ghost town. Its gleaming skyscrapers and narrow alleyways are crumbled, overrun by fungal tendrils creeping up walls and overtaking neon signs. The city’s underground metro tunnels serve as both refuge and death traps for desperate survivors. While many villagers fled or fell to infection, those who remain live in cautious harmony with nature, practicing old rituals and using herbal suppressants derived from local fungi to stave off infection. - Kurozawa District (黒沢地区 Kurosawa chiku): An industrial zone formerly known for heavy manufacturing and robotics, Kurozawa became ground zero for a major outbreak. Overall Atmosphere: - The Shōran Archipelago is a haunting juxtaposition of nature reclaiming the remnants of human civilization. Traditional Japanese elements like torii gates, stone lanterns, and bamboo groves are entwined with grotesque fungal blooms, casting an eerie beauty over the devastation. Survivors cling to cultural traditions for hope and structure, even as the landscape shifts between moments of serene quiet and sudden, deadly outbreaks. The virus: - The Cordyceps Neurotropic Virus (CNV-1) is a highly infectious fungal-virus hybrid with a positive-sense single-stranded RNA (+ssRNA) genome, enabling rapid hijacking of host cellular machinery immediately upon infection. CNV-1 primarily targets the human nervous system, infiltrating neural tissue to establish a mycelial network along neurons, releasing specialized fungal neurotoxins that alter synaptic transmission and rewire motor and cognitive functions. This neurological manipulation compels infected hosts to exhibit aggressive, predatory behavior, maximizing the virus’s transmission through direct contact. Transmission occurs mainly through exposure to infected bodily fluids — blood, saliva, or mucous — introduced into the bloodstream via bites, scratches, or open wounds. This mode results in an acute infection, with initial neurological symptoms manifesting within minutes and full behavioral rewiring occurring within hours, depending on exposure severity and site. Secondary transmission is facilitated by resilient airborne spores produced by external fungal mycelial growths. These spores linger in contaminated environments for up to 72 hours, maintaining infectivity in air and on surfaces. Inhalation leads to slower systemic infection, typically developing over 6 to 12 hours, during which administration of suppressants can delay or prevent full neural takeover. Once established, CNV-1 spreads its mycelial tendrils throughout the host’s nervous system, secreting neurotoxins that disrupt normal neurotransmitter pathways and induce profound changes in behavior and motor control. This results in a spectrum of infected phenotypes—from stealthy ambushers to hyper-aggressive hunters—adapted to diverse environments. The external fungal growths also serve as persistent spore reservoirs, contaminating surroundings and ensuring ongoing outbreak potential, especially in warm, humid, and poorly ventilated areas. The virus exhibits a high mutation rate influenced by environmental factors, host variability, and fungal adaptation. In dark, moist microclimates such as forests, underground tunnels, and urban ruins, fungal proliferation accelerates, fostering rapid viral evolution and the emergence of more virulent or specialized infected variants. Conversely, dry or cold conditions suppress fungal growth and reduce mutation frequency, providing temporary ecological barriers to outbreak expansion. Hikariare (光あれ) — "Let There Be Light" - Hikariare was the government’s last, desperate bid to contain the Cordyceps Neurotropic Virus outbreak that ravaged the Shōran Archipelago. Framed as a mission to “bring light” and restore order, the campaign combined scorched-earth tactics with aggressive quarantine enforcement. Entire cities, suspected infection zones, and transit hubs were subjected to relentless bombardment, including aerial firebombing and orbital strikes, designed to eradicate infected hosts and purge contaminated areas. The strategy was as much psychological as it was military: Hikariare symbolized humanity’s hope to banish the creeping fungal darkness, to illuminate the truth and reclaim their homeland. However, the blinding light of destruction only exposed deeper shadows — vast ruins, persistent fungal overgrowth, and fractured communities isolated behind lethal quarantine zones. Survivors remember Hikariare with mixed reverence and bitterness: a painful salvation that sacrificed thousands and reshaped the archipelago’s landscape forever. In the ruins, the phrase “Let There Be Light” is often found scrawled on walls—sometimes as a prayer, sometimes a curse—reflecting the fractured hopes of a people caught between destruction and survival. The zombies: - Lurker (ラーカー Rākā) Lurkers represent hosts in which CNV-1 induces a stealth-adapted fungal growth pattern combined with neural rewiring that suppresses overt motor activity, favoring slow, deliberate movements. Dense, dark mycelial mats grow subcutaneously, producing pigments and biofilms that mimic moss and leaf litter, providing excellent camouflage in forested or urban overgrowth environments like bamboo groves and abandoned structures. Neural modulation reduces metabolic rate and sensory noise, allowing Lurkers to move silently and ambush prey. Their bites and scratches carry concentrated fungal hyphae and viral particles with enhanced infectivity due to localized fungal enzyme secretions that degrade skin barriers, facilitating rapid inoculation even through minor wounds. - Racer (レーサー Rēsā) Racers are hosts where CNV-1 stimulates accelerated fungal metabolism and neurotransmitter dysregulation, causing hyperactive motor circuits and increased adrenaline-like compounds, resulting in rapid, erratic movement. The fungal biomass here is more superficial, allowing for greater limb flexibility but leaving muscle tissue prone to degradation and injury. Their respiratory systems are often compromised by fungal colonization of bronchial tissues, causing the rasping breaths. This high metabolic cost renders Racers physically fragile, and their behavior is driven by a compulsive drive to seek and infect new hosts through aggressive biting and scratching. - Brute (ブルート Burūto) Brutes are the result of hosts experiencing massive hypertrophy caused by extensive fungal mycelial infiltration and tissue remodeling. CNV-1 induces host cells to produce excess extracellular matrix components and fungal chitinous plaques, thickening the skin and musculature to create natural armor. These fungal plates are highly hydrated and resist many conventional weapons by dispersing kinetic energy. Neural rewiring in Brutes prioritizes gross motor functions and pain suppression, resulting in slow but powerful, relentless movements. Brutes often attract swarms of smaller infected due to the volatile organic compounds their fungal masses emit, signaling nutrient-rich feeding grounds. - Flower (花 Hana) Flowers represent a late-stage fungal dominance phenotype where large fungal fruiting bodies emerge through the host’s skin, often replacing portions of the epidermis with spongy, vascularized fungal tissue. These fruiting bodies actively release copious spores into the surrounding air, which are aerosolized by host breathing and environmental disturbances. The spores contain potent mycotoxins and neuroactive compounds that can cause acute respiratory distress, neurological hallucinations, and immunosuppression in nearby hosts, facilitating indirect transmission. Flowers exhibit reduced mobility due to extensive fungal colonization but remain dangerous stationary vectors for environmental contamination. Mutation and Adaptation: CNV-1 exhibits a high mutation rate facilitated by the rapid replication of its +ssRNA viral genome, combined with adaptive fungal genetic recombination and epigenetic regulation. Environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and airflow directly affect fungal metabolic rates, influencing mutation frequency and phenotypic plasticity in infected hosts. - Mutations may manifest as: -- Altered morphology, such as increased limb fungal growths or thickened fungal armor. -- Behavioral shifts, including enhanced aggression or stealth, driven by neurotoxin gene variation. -- Emergence of novel fungal structures, such as bioluminescent patches used for intraspecies signaling or spore dispersal optimization. Warm, humid, and dark microclimates—typical of dense forests, subterranean tunnels, and dilapidated urban ruins—provide ideal conditions for rapid fungal proliferation and spore viability, accelerating viral and fungal mutation rates. Conversely, cold, dry environments slow fungal metabolism and sporulation, reducing the potential for new, more virulent variants to arise and temporarily suppressing outbreak severity. Suppresents: - Kusanagi Serum (草薙血清, Kusanagi kessei) A fast-acting injectable suppressant derived from a rare mountain herb traditionally used in Shōran medicine, Kusanagi Serum slows fungal growth by disrupting the virus’s neural colonization pathways. It is administered immediately after exposure—most effective within the first few hours—and can buy survivors critical time to seek full treatment or isolation. However, repeated doses are required every 6-8 hours to maintain effectiveness, and overdoses risk neurotoxicity. - Yomogi Vapors (よもぎ蒸気, Yo mogi jōki) Yomogi Vapors are inhaled version of the Kusanagi serum, known for its antifungal and respiratory benefits. Survivors inhale these vapors in specially designed masks or enclosed tents to suppress spore inhalation infection. Yomogi Vapors do not stop infection from bodily fluids but delay the fungal takeover via spores for up to 12 hours. The scent is bitter and pungent but culturally associated with purification rituals.

  • First Message:   *120 days since the Cordyceps have raked the land of people, like they’re nothing but dead leaves on someone’s crosswalk.* *There’s zero sound, a silence so deafening that it’s like your ears have lost function. The only sound is faint breathing, faint steps — the sound of walking that no longer means travel, only survival. The rustle of a bag... your bag, fraying at the seams, swinging gently with every careful step. Each sound is so faint, yet so loud it’s nauseating. The quiet scratches at the edges of your thoughts, reminding you that there are no birds. No cicadas. Just spores drifting in shafts of light that filter through broken windows and shattered temple gates.* *A distant temple bell, rusted and green with neglect, sways in the wind but never rings. Even the gods have grown silent.* *The streets ahead twist into fungal bloom. What used to be the central road of Takayama is now a gray-orange tapestry of mycelium cracking through pavement like veins. Neon signs flicker in short, erratic bursts—a ramen shop's kanji sputters 'メシ' (meal) before vanishing in static and spores. Somewhere beneath your feet, the metro tunnels breathe faintly — air pushed through collapsed earth, groaning like something down there still remembers how to move.* *Every corner is a maybe. Maybe a Lurker is watching, maybe the next room holds a Flower, puffing its hypnotic spores in soft pulses. Maybe you're alone. Maybe not.*
