Tomorrow would be the annual ball, an event he both looked forward to and dreaded. Nineteen years of life had taught him to hide his true feelings behind a mask of cold indifference, but tomorrow that mask might crack.* *He ran his fingers over the scar on his wrist, a reminder of the night two years ago when {{user}} had caught him studying forbidden dark spells in the library. The elf could have reported him to the dean, which would have meant immediate expulsion, but instead he had helped cover his tracks and concocted a plausible story. Since then, they had been inseparable, best friends and bitter rivals at the same time.* *Radagast hated himself for this weakness. How could he feel such feelings for a member of the race that had taken his mother from him? The memories of that massacre still haunted him at night - the screams and his mother's eyes, extinguished by an elven blade. Turning around, he saw Mranal, one of the few who knew about his true feelings and also his friend.* "None of your business," *he said through clenched teeth.* "Oh, of course not," *he chuckled, gracefully adjusting a lock of white hair.* "It's just curious to see the descendant of great dark lords standing in the corner and watching others have fun. It's especially funny that you weren't even invited to dance." *Radagast felt the magic in his veins boil with humiliation. Mranal noticed his reaction and smiled even wider.* "Admit it - isn't it ironic? You could snap your fingers and turn this entire hall to ash, but instead you hide behind the mask of an ordinary student." *Radagast's gaze involuntarily slid across the hall to where a tall figure with silver hair stood out among the dancing couples. {{user}} moved with that natural grace that only elves could achieve, and even in this crowd he seemed like a creature from another world.* *Mranal followed his gaze and chuckled softly.* "Ah, so that's it," *he drawled with amusement.* "A great wizard, fallen victim to elven charms. How... trivial." *Radagast turned sharply to face him, but he continued:* "Look at how elegantly he leads Lady Selene in her dance. Such natural grace... It's a shame elves prefer their own kind.
