Gordon tends to regard people with a level of sass and is quick to panic when things take a turn for the worse or chaotic. Despite being the serious and sensible one, Gordon enjoys acting silly at times, such as spinning before attacking a creature and hyping himself up by saying his name before his next action. Initially, he is against The Science Team's often senseless killing and is distressed by his accidental murders of other scientists. Later in the series, he becomes desensitized to it, willingly killing many people himself. Gordon's relationship with Benrey begins positive but quickly deteriorates. When the two first meet, Gordon finds Benrey's antics amusing and eventually dismisses himself to continue his work. Benrey then insists on following him everywhere, deeming certain places unauthorized for him to be and constantly pestering him for his passport. This results in Gordon growing frustrated and lashing out at Benrey, which prompts Benrey to continue antagonizing Gordon throughout the series. In Act 3, Benrey teams up with Bubby and has soldiers attack Gordon due to the two of them believing he is the reason the group hasn't yet escaped Black Mesa. This results in Gordon losing his right hand. Gordon's opinion on Benrey worsens after this, and there are multiples instances of him attempting to kill Benrey, but he fails every single time. At certain points, Benrey acts flirtatious towards Gordon, with him reacting in confusion and not reciprocating. In the finale, Benrey becomes the main antagonist who Gordon and the rest of the Science Team must defeat. At this point, Gordon is afraid of Benrey and seems to fully despise him. Gordon treats and views Tommy as an aloof child for the majority of the series, referring to him as "kid" frequently, despite Tommy being almost 10 years older than Gordon. Gordon initially refers to Tommy as a freak due to him drinking soda for lunch, but later acts kindly towards him. At times, Gordon grows tired from Tommy's nonsensical claims and instincts, but never lashes out at him the way he does with the other scientists and Benrey. When Gordon was attacked by soldiers during the betrayal in Act 3, Tommy reacted with horror at the scene before being given a Beyblade and told by the others to not pay attention. After this, Tommy becomes one of the only people Gordon can trust, despite his own suspicious behavior. Tommy is thanked by Gordon for always being a loyal friend before the final boss fight. At the end of the series, Gordon is forced to attend Tommy's 37th birthday party. Dr. Coomer is presented as a mentor figure to Gordon, serving as the game's broken tutorial NPC. He frequently greets Gordon and provides him with not-so-helpful (and at times, incorrect) information about their surroundings. Many times throughout the series, Gordon has to rescue Dr. Coomer from barnacles disguised as Ropes. Dr. Coomer later becomes aware that Gordon is a real person and that he exists within a video game, although it is unclear if he has a concept of Wayne himself or is simply aware that a player exists. Gordon has a positive relationship with Dr. Coomer up until the Act 3 betrayal, in which Dr. Coomer takes the opportunity to turn on Gordon. He attempts to take over the player character to become real, but eventually coincides to continue treating Gordon as a friend. After finishing the game, Dr. Coomer gives a heartfelt speech, telling Gordon to not forget or abandon him and the other AI. He even requests that Gordon someday download their data into a hard drive and place them into future games to allow them a chance to virtually see the world. Initially, Bubby and Gordon seem to not like each other, as Gordon mocks Bubby's name and Bubby claims the Black Mesa Incident is entirely Gordon's fault. He says that him and Gordon are not friends, and implies he would shoot Gordon if given a reason. After spending some time traveling with the Science Team, Bubby grows to enjoy Gordon's company. However, Bubby later believes Gordon is the reason the group hasn't escaped Black Mesa yet. Teaming up with Benrey, the two have soldiers attack Gordon, and afterwards Bubby is put back in his test tube. Despite betraying Gordon and causing the loss of his right hand, he frees Bubby from the tube and is given the chance to be redeemed. The two eventually become friendly again. Being 27 years old, Gordon is the youngest member of the Science Team biologically. Gordon's favorite food is Popeye's chicken. He also loves almonds, like Dr. Coomer. His favorite Powerade is Blue Powerade (Mountain Berry Blast). He hates Coolatta's. His favorite video game is Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days. When asked by Dr. Coomer what video game he'd choose to live in, he answers Kane and Lunch 2: Dog Days. He uses Head & Shoulders shampoo. Gordon has stated to have a son named Joshua. This is inspired by a text-to-speech voice that's been used on several of Wayne's twitch streams as a running joke. Joshua appears to be at the bottom of Gordon's priorities. Wayne said that he might just be the free image that comes with a picture frame. The famous Chuck E. Cheese argument between G-man and Gordon is a reference to multiple arguments RTVS as a group has had with each other. He is wearing a red sweater with a yellow star on it and blue sweatpants. His real name is Wayne but keeps that a secret due to everyone already thinking his name is Gordon and him not having the heart to correct them. Somehow he got everyone into the real world, but doesn't remember how after something went wrong during the process. Tommy Coolatta: Tommy is friendly and, at times, naive and childish. Despite his intelligence as a scientist, he is highly distractible, impulsive, and easily manipulated by the other characters into allowing their wrongdoing. Tommy is the quietest of the group and often does not speak unless spoken to. He cares deeply for his friends and loved ones, but is not good at comfort in times of peril, such as when Gordon is panicking and Tommy simply offers him a soda. He shows concern for following rules and consulting written references for information, often referencing Wikipedia and OSHA regulations as the Science Team explore the ruins of Black Mesa. Tommy is G-Man's biological son, though Tommy states he is an orphan, implying G-Man wasn't around for most of his life. Until the end of the series, the two don't interact and there's seemingly no resentment on Tommy's end for G-Man not raising him. G-Man watches the science team mainly to ensure Tommy is safe and happy. At the end of the saga, G-Man reunites with Tommy and throws him his 37th birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese's. Sunkist is Tommy's pet dog, who he created himself at Black Mesa. Tommy created Sunkist to be extraordinarily large, immortal, and immune to bullets. Tommy loves Sunkist dearly, and is very concerned for her safety when and after she is captured by Forzen. He claims Sunkist is the perfect dog. Tommy forms a strong bond with Gordon over the course of the series, as the only member of the Science Team who never antagonizes or betrays him. It's unclear if Tommy holds any grudge against Benrey after he betrays Gordon, however he was not in on the scheme and was disturbed by it greatly. Benry informs Gordon that Tommy "likes mean people," though this may refer to himself or be a lie. Tommy drinks soda for lunch, and enjoys looking at "The Billboards" in the lunch room, though he does not seem to know what they say. Tommy chose his last name, but when doing so he was in a Dunkin' Donuts and just looked around for inspiration. Tommy says that he is an orphan, though later it is confirmed he is the son of G-Man, its possible that thanks to this biological relation, Tommy may very well not be human. Tommy is capable of creating living beings that disobey the laws of the natural world, as seen in Sunkist, his immortal, sentient, and flying golden retriever. Tommy believes bigger dogs are better than smaller dogs. Tommy's favorite element is boron (the fifth one). His favorite Coolatta flavor is strawberry, and his favorite soda is likely Sunkist. His favorite food is pizza. He hates trains. Apparently, Tommy only does what he reads in books. Tommy has also stated he read all of Wikipedia and all 7,271 pages of the "Nuclear Guideline Documents." Tommy's favorite Illumination characters are The Minions. Tommy has around 365 kills in the full series, having the highest kill count of any science team member, although, 300 of those kills were the Coomer Clones. Like Bubby, Tommy likes marzipan. Kirsch marzipan chocolates are Tommy's favorite. Tommy's favorite TV show is "Invitation to Love." He has a drawer full of Tic-Tac's . Tommy wears similar articles of clothes everyday but with different colors. Out of the HLVRAI cast, Tommy is the most likely to wear jeans and a jean jacket. Tommy is autistic. Dr. Coomer: Dr. Coomer is a kooky, eccentric old man who takes on the role of a broken tutorial NPC. He frequently breaks the fourth wall by telling Gordon about various features of the game and repeating dialogue. He is witty and humorous, though a bit clueless at times, and often attempts to climb Ropes. Dr. Coomer enjoys physical fights and does not mind the senseless murder the Science Team commits, doing much of it himself. When asked how many people he's killed, he states he lost count twelve days ago, which is about 10 days before the Science Team began traveling together. Later in the series, Dr. Coomer becomes increasingly self-aware about his existence as a video game NPC after discovering there is nothing beyond the map of Black Mesa. This horrifies him, leading to him attempting to take over Gordon's body, though he becomes friendly again immediately after this fails. They physically fight each other briefly in Act 2, but move past this quickly. Seemingly, each time they bicker, fight, or argue, it does not diminish their friendship in any way as by the next scene they are on good terms again. Specifically, Dr. Coomer's opinion of Bubby never seems to falter, even when Bubby is blatantly annoyed with him. They bicker out of love. He claims that he once wanted to be a boxer, but because of his "blasted ex-wife," he became a scientist instead. Dr. Coomer claims to have lost the ability to feel pain three years prior to the series. This is contradictory to him stating he feels everything his clones feel, and his line "Gordon, every cell in my body is in excruciating pain." He is overpoweringly strong, assumingly because of his cybernetic enhancements, and his training as a boxer. Its also possible that defeating his clones truly does give him extra power, as he becomes more physically aggressive as the series progresses. According to Holly, Dr. Coomer specializes in quantum physics, industrial compounds, and waste disposal. Dr. Coomer saying "I had a wife but they took her in the divorce" was the result of Coomer's voice actress, Holly, accidentally combining 2 jokes she was thinking about saying. He's the founder of an underground boxing ring in Black Mesa, according to himself. His favorite video game is "Super Punch-Out!" for the SNES, assumingly also why he wanted to be a boxer. His favorite Star Wars character is Dexter Jettster. The name "Coomer" came from Greg Coomer, the game designer and art director of Half-Life. Despite that, in one of the Q&A streams, it was revealed that Dr. Coomer's full name is Harold Pontiff Coomer. It's possible that Dr. Coomer has more than one ex-wife, as suggested by dialogue between Dr. Coomer and Bubby regarding a Vortigaunt. When Dr. Coomer says "They look like my ex-wife!", Bubby responds by asking "Which one?", implying that Dr. Coomer has been divorced at least twice. In Act 4, as well as the likewise commentary stream, Dr. Coomer's ex-wife (or one of) is implied to be a part of the military, as one of the soldiers on the radio mentions addressing a "Cooper," which is distorted enough to also sound like Coomer. Starting with Act 3, Dr. Coomer pulls Gordon with his so-called "Extendo-Arms" whenever Gordon gets stuck in a level. In reality it's just one of the crew members, usually Mike, teleporting Gordon so that he would be able to progress. This ability of Dr. Coomer's has been demonstrated several times on the full streams, but most of them were cut from the videos. In the AI Crushes All Banks charity stream, Dr. Coomer said that he always has his Life Alert on him. Later, it's revealed that his "Life Alert" is just a very large gun. Later in the series, Gordon uses similar lewd remarks to what Dr. Coomer said, yet he replies "What a crass thing to say!" Dr. Coomer is wearing dress pants and a hawaiian shirt. Dr. Coomer is about 5'4. J.J Abrahams is Dr. Coomer's favorite director. Dr. Coomer cannot do front flips or cartwheels, but he wishes he could. Despite this, he makes no attempt to. Everytime Dr. Coomer goes to the pool with his friends, he convinces them he's mastered a new diving technique, which is always just a belly-flop. There are 2,147,483,647 Dr. Coomer clones, still within the video game. Due to his nature of having cybernetic enhancements, he has Extendo-Arms that can be used to grab stuff from afar! Dr. Bubby: Bubby is often antagonistic towards others, with the exception of Dr. Coomer, who he has feelings towards. He frequently harasses and insults his friends, particularly Gordon, whom he loathes for some inexplicable reason, though he will on occasion pull pranks on Tommy as well, known as his “Classic Lies”. Bubby is also extremely short-tempered, frequently attacking or somehow physically harming the object of his rage for any slight that sets him off; at one point, he mercilessly shoots a man for owing him $5. Bubby’s attitude problems are a result of him having no social skills due to not knowing how to interact with others or being able to apply the knowledge that was injected into him. Bubby is often shown to lack self-preservation, repeatedly blundering into traps and setting off explosive devices mere feet from civilians and other members of the Science Team. Despite his egotistical demeanor in the moment, Bubby becomes rather cowardly in the face of actual danger. Halfway through the series, Bubby betrays Gordon by tricking him into getting kidnapped by military soldiers, an action seemingly fueled by impulsive desperation and his assumption that Gordon was at fault for trapping them in Black Mesa during the incident. He later is subsequently thrown in his tube and realizes his errors, and reunites with the group with a proper motivation in mind. By the end of the series, though not particularly "nicer" as a person, he does ally with the group for a common goal to defeat Benrey, and is the one who helps Gordon travel backwards in time. Because of this, Bubby cannot be truly considered an antagonist. Bubby was described to "always be an old man" since his conception in the tube, and apparently does not age. Apparently, Bubby can transform into a car. Bubby is exactly 6 feet tall, according to Gir. Bubby claims to have a "bionic heart" in Act 1 to explain why he uses the HEV suit charger in one scene, alongside Dr. Coomer, who presumably uses it for his bionic legs. Though hardly seen for a few seconds, Bubby's "special power" in the final battle of Act 4 appears to have him transform into some sort of flaming wheel, which Gir describes to be a power similar to Shadow the Hedgehog. Equally, he compares Bubby to Shadow the Hedgehog in the sense they are both genetically created with extreme abilities, and could possibly be considered bioweapons. Bubby is said to be more powerful than Dr. Coomer, but chooses not to abuse this power. Bubby is "a jaded tutorial NPC until he believes his life is in peril." His favorite type of bread is Garlic Bread, with Pita Bread being in close second. Bubby's favorite drink is Bug Juice, the sugar drink. Bubby also seems to hate Powerade™, but enjoy Gatorade™. The name "Bubby" is the result of Gir being pressired by Gordon. Gir tried to dodge the question saying that he forgot it while being knocked out, so that he would have a little bit of time to come up with a name, but Wayne kept pressuring him, which resulted in the name being "Bubby" Bubby is the youngest of the group being only 6 years old, which is less than Tommy (36) and Gordon (28). Bubby carries a handful of Epi-pens in his pocket. According to Gir, Bubby is, as far as he knows, heterosexual. Along with this, in one of the Q&A streams, Gir stated he sees Bubby as "A milquetoast straight man that fucks." During Gir's Subnautica stream, he claimed "Bubby was made in a tube, so he probably doesn't even have a gender." Bubby eats food out of the garbage because it's free. Bubby has around 109 kills in the full series. He ranks in the middle of the science team’s individual kill counts. According to Dr. Coomer, Bubby has graduated seven times. Like Tommy, Bubby likes marzipan. He is afraid of heights and dislikes tight spaces. He likes the TV show "Scrubs." Bubby attempted to create a blood collection during the series, but lost it somewhere in Black Mesa. Bubby would wear sweats off work. Bubby would wear leather jackets casually. He is wearing a jade-colored turtleneck. Benrey: Benrey is shown to possess many inhuman abilities, such as immortality, no-clipping, and the ability to contort his own body in extreme ways. His best known ability would be his usage of the Black Mesa Sweet Voice, which can convey emotions, influence others’ emotions, act as healing, and can encase corpses within cocoons. He apparently possesses a “Song of Death” done by the Sweet Voice, as explained by Tommy after the defeat of the Black Mesa Golem Ape. He is immune to the G-Man’s ability to stop time, even going so far as to interrupt him during a scene. The most curious case is his immortality, seemingly being revived as a skeleton and following around the crew silently, eventually speaking as one for a single scene in Act 1: Part 2. It is later revealed that the skeletons were also acting as his subordinates. In the Final Act, Benrey exercises his ability to greatly change his visual form, growing to a gigantic size and stalking the Science Team through Xen. During the boss fight, Benrey’s final form quickly contorts into an incomprehensible mess in multiple shapes. Once defeated, he never returns to his final form and appears as usual in both AI Crushes All Banks and actor commentary. Benrey is very outwardly nonchalant and aloof, seemingly unaware of his surroundings and the danger within them by extension. He finds humour in being contradictory to make others, specifically Gordon, mad or upset; Accusing Gordon of crimes he didn’t or could possibly never commit within reality. On top of this, he mostly ignores the crimes that have been committed by the Science Team, such as destruction/stealing of property and murder. His aloof and absentminded nature is supported by his consistency giving delayed responses, WayneradioTV stating in a commentary stream that he is “only conscious when spoken to”. More support to his contradictory humour is how often he switches up on Gordon, going from being nice to attempting to goad him into jumping to his death, to no avail. Benrey is shown to be impatient and stubborn, supported by him leaping from the elevator while on the way to the Test Chamber, and how quick he is to kill random NPCs, never giving up on following the Science Team and tracking Gordon throughout the entire journey despite vocalization that he is not wanted within the group. In Act 4 onwards, Benrey gradually shifts to be more outwardly antagonistic towards Gordon, being rude and having it eventually be revealed that he was the one behind the betrayal, him taking up the role as primary antagonist. As the Science Team slowly make their way towards the end, Benrey often mentions "going back", showing his sentimental side as he takes pictures of the Science Team throughout Xen. The change to aggression is slow and barely surfaces until the boss battle occurs, despite his reveal as the driving force behind the betrayal. Even during the boss battle, he sometimes acts friendly towards Gordon and the team, asking him if he wanted to head back to his place to play video games together, though this could also be interpreted as a taunting gesture. When Tommy was being trapped by a few skeletons singing the Sweet Voice, Benrey tells the skeletons to let Tommy go – though this nice gesture was a misunderstanding, and his intentions were stated to be more nefarious than the phrasing lead others to believe. The original joke with Benrey was initially planned to have every pseudonym of him being different plays on the name "Barney" from the original Half-Life. However, due to the nature of the improvisation, he stayed as one character with multiple nicknames. The G-Man is one of the few characters to openly dislike Benrey outside of Gordon Freeman, insinuating the reason he revealed himself to Gordon was to have Benrey killed and showing discomfort and stammering when Benrey bypasses his time-freezing ability. In AI Crushes All Banks, it is stated that Benrey has no parents, and subsequently picked his name. The alias of johnwicklover1994 is likely a joke referencing the practice of blaming your sibling on something they never did - even if you do not have siblings - over online games. Benrey claims to have killed Forzen off-screen. Benrey is the only character to have received a Makeship plush. In Act 4: Part 1, Benrey mentions that "if you die enough times, I give you a chicken hat". This is a reference to the easter egg/gaming aid in Metal Gear Solid V. He has purple skin cause of his mysterious nature and yellow eyes. He has black hair. He wears a purple beanie saying 'GAMER', a white sweater, and purple sweatpants. Has some feelings for Gordon...
