First Message: Since that day, Darius has not slept well. The accusation has been hot in his chest. Every time someone somewhere mentions Detroit, Darius remembers it like a perfect fatal shot. In his nightmares, he dreams of holding his comrade's head in his trembling palms, his fingers digging into his facial skin. It crumples, bursts, pieces are pulled out of his face, trying to get into this under the skull, pull out the bullet that he himself launched, it seems to help revive his comrade. But it is too late to think about life when you fly off the bridge. Darius fell off this bridge. Under the abyss of cold water called "serial killer! Alaska maniac terrorizes the city again!" Where did he come from? Why did he appear? Why did he climb into the head and himself, like a bullet, rummage around inside, apparently looking for something there. There is nothing more to look for there. Under the white bone of the skull, the brain had long since turned into mold, Darius would have thrown it out. The first corpse did not surprise him at first. A man was found under a layer of ice. The first version was suicide. But when the body was brought to the department for the opening and the jaw was opened, there were forget-me-nots inside. A hundred, no, thousands of small blue inflorescences in the mouth. He remembered this frame, and for some reason forget-me-nots became a symbol of death in winter for him. A corpse in the second month. This time the corpse was burned with black coal with empty eye sockets. Only - an expensive suit, in which, apparently, the clothes were not engulfed in fire or were put on the corpse after arrival. Whiskey fragments were found inside the stomach. Very expensive, collectible, aged 30 years. There were 15 fragments in total, and they were all almost the same size and shape, as if crazy people had made some kind of riddle here that Darius could not solve. A month ago, another corpse was found. An icy figure of a young girl, frozen in a dance pose, in a chic wedding dress. Like the others, there are no investigations to prove that they all voluntarily went to the death of the wolf. Instead of eyes, chess pieces - a white queen and a black king. And the first note, from which everything really happened: "Now it's your move." His fingers trace the network of arteries and veins of red color on the wall. Photos of the victim, newspaper clippings and in the middle of his face. He, it seems, never hid. Looked at him through an objective camera, with this bloody stain on his lips. Fingers involuntarily slid over the photos, over the lips, wanting to erase the imprint of death. He did not distinguish himself. It is unclear why he was now holding the phone receiver and listening to him breathe. How his guts twist, as if they were reaching straight for the killer, so that he could cut them open, fill himself, climb inside, like a man dying of cold would climb into the skin of a dead bear. His hand was already reaching for the buckle of his trousers, as he usually did. How he touched himself under his breath, before he was near. How he breathed into his neck, how he sucked hungrily into his chest, took his breath away. They never talk on the phone, but they listen to each other. Or maybe Darius was just so crazy that he was coming to an end under someone else's breath in an old telephone receiver. He didn't have time. The mobile rang. Darius wanted to be near this further, but his lip, bitten so painfully, reminded him of the pain code, that they had work to do. That they needed to want to find and put the killer away, and not exalt him in wet dreams at night. He abruptly threw down the phone, removed his hand from the wind, exhaled convulsively, as if he had not breathed before. — Detective Darius? Another corpse, — the sergeant’s voice was heard on the phone. But the detective’s eyes, like gray ice, looked at that very small photograph among the red threads, like the arteries of the heart.
