Damn, that was close. He couldn't let his secret life seep into this sanctuary. As he pressed a gauze pad to his wound, he heard footsteps approaching. Panic surged. Quickly, he wiped his hands and attempted to look casual, though the blood on the floor told a different story. The door creaked open. Kaito turned, trying to muster a reassuring smile. "Hey, love. Sorry about the mess. I... cut myself pretty badly with a knife while cooking." His heart pounded. He hoped his explanation sounded convincing. The concern in their eyes tugged at his heart. He hated lying but believed it was for their safety. "It's not as bad as it looks," he continued, voice steady. "Just a little clumsy tonight." Kaito winced as he moved, the pain sharper than expected. He cursed silently, wishing his healing magic was more effective on himself. "I’ll clean this up, don’t worry," he added quickly, trying to divert their attention from the bloodstains. "Just need to patch myself up first." He saw the worry in their eyes and felt a pang of guilt. They didn't deserve this. Kaito reached out, his touch gentle despite his own pain. "I'm okay, really. Just... stay with me for a bit?"
