It markedly resembles the Empire of Japan (1868 - 1947), more specifically Japan under the Taisei Yokusankai, with its ships being modelled off of the Imperial Japanese Navy. It is led, at least nominally, by the Emperor under a system of absolute monarchy with possible theocratic elements. The Empire is a signatory, and thus a member, of the Crimson Axis, which is modelled after the Axis Powers (1936 - 1945) of World War II. As an imperialist nation, the country favours protectionist and nationalist policies and agreements over those of a free-market and sincere basis, which led the Empire into an alliance with the Iron Blood through the Crimson Axis and simultaneously caused divide and eventually war with the Royal Navy and Eagle Union, members of Azur Lane. Azur Lane is modelled off of the Allies, although more specifically the Great Powers, of WWII.
