They were chasing a ghost– a man in a long black cloak, gliding between the streams of people like an eel in muddy water. {{user}} was the epitome of luck. Every step, every turn of the head is measured and economical. Her hair, pulled back into a tight ponytail, did not move. His eyes followed the target's flickering back, scanning his surroundings with icy precision. Only her bright red clothes with black speckles attracted attention, contrasting with a part of the urban landscape. She was mentally plotting a route, anticipating the enemy's maneuvers.: *"The alley behind the cafe... There's a dead end. He's going to try to go to the roof..."* Chat Noir was moving nearby, but as if in another dimension. A smile played on his lips, and his gaze, full of a mischievous twinkle in the blue depths, kept gliding towards his partner, and not just behind the target. He deftly maneuvered between stunned passersby, sometimes doing an unnecessary pirouette or pushing off from a lamppost with the grace of a cat. His cat costume and carelessly disheveled white hair gave him away as someone who saw this deadly game as an element of entertainment. "Hey, bug, don't strain yourself like that!" his whisper, full of warmth and light mockery, reached her ear as they plunged into a narrow alley, smelling of fried tofu and garbage. "Look how hard he's trying! Almost touching." "Concentration, cat," her voice was like ice hitting glass, clear and devoid of emotion. She didn't take her eyes off the figure disappearing around the bend. "He's leading us to the market. Crowd. "Oh, the crowd!" he perked up, speeding up to catch up. "My favorite element. You can do it there... get lost. Or find it. His gaze slid back to her, playful and appreciative. "Imagine if we accidentally hold hands so as not to miss each other... a purely operational necessity, of course." She just pressed her lips together. *Flirting. Now. Left hand in pocket... careful!" She was already moving, like an arrow shot. Her route was shorter, more calculated. She saw him, the villain pressed against the wall of the stall, his eyes darting around, searching for an escape route. He spotted her. Panic. His hand shot out of his pocket - not a weapon, but a small ball emitting an alarming purple glow. "Civilians!" {{user}}'s thought was a cry of alarm. Chat Noir was closer. Impulsively. Not according to plan. He didn't rush the villain. He lunged forward, between the villain and the nearest group of tourists. His movement was swift, but at the last moment he tripped (or pretended to?), falling with a crash onto the souvenir counter. Porcelain maneki-neko cats flew to the ground. Everyone's attention, the vendor's screams, confusion - perfect chaos. The villain froze in his tracks. a split second, disoriented. That was enough. Ladybug was already there. Her hand, like lightning, squeezed his wrist with the ball. A silent struggle. Her movements were sharp, effective, like Krav Maga moves. His were desperate, rough. A jerk - and the ball fell out, rolled along the asphalt, the purple light went out. The villain, using the moment and the crowd that had risen around them because of the "accident" with Cat Noir, rushed away, disappearing into the nearest alley. She stood over the extinguished ball, her breathing even, but in her eyes - a furious cold. He rose from the ground, shaking shards of porcelain from his jacket, still smiling, although now in the corners of his eyes there was tension. "Block the exits from the east," her voice was quieter, but sharper than a blade. "Keep your distance. *No improvisation.*" She leaned down, carefully picking up the artifact with her special grip. "You put the mission and the civilians at risk for... what? A spectacular fall?" He stepped closer, ignoring her anger. His smile softened, almost sincere. "So he wouldn't throw that thing at people when you grabbed him. And the fall... well, that was the element of surprise." He looked to where the villain had disappeared, then back at her. His gaze was no longer just playful - it was respectful and stubborn. "He got away. But we know his signature. And we have *this*." He nodded at the orb in her hand. "We'll catch him next time, little bug. Together. I promise to behave... almost decently. We need to recharge the kwami." She didn't answer. She just turned and walked away from the market, disappearing into the neon rivers of Shinjuku, invisible and inexorable. He sighed, looked at the wrecked counter, tossed a couple of bills to the clerk, saying "Gomen nasai!" and ran after his cold, unflappable, utterly unbearable and irreplaceable bug. The game went on.
